  1. Wow - I definitely did not have any intention to make it look anything like a swastika. That didn't even cross my mind! Sorry if I offended in any way or caused any concern...I wanted the image to be provocative, but never imagined it to resemble a nazi symbol. If you do not feel comfortable with it, I can delete my post. I don't want to upset anyone. Regarding the "unsettling" nature of the image - I was just aiming to resemble the propaganda posters of the cold war and other eras. From my research, these types of propaganda posters were incredibly biased in their depiction of the "other side" and clearly played on people's primal emotions (fear and anger being the most used; with pride being a close second). It speaks to the "desperation" of the times that people would allow themselves to be swayed by such posters. Only in an atmosphere of intense hatred, mistrust and fear can a general populace fall for such nonsense. Thankfully, we live in areas of the world untouched by war directly - and are able to look at these images through unbiased lenses. When they are seen i this light, they certainly look disturbing. In fact, if you take a moment to browse the many hundreds of real propaganda posters that were created during WWI, WWII and beyond, I think you would very quickly walk away disturbed. The way the material purposefully bends and twists the truth, the way it makes everything seem black and white, the way it does not allow any room for different opinions - it is all truly disturbing. I thought - and maybe I am mistaken - that Xenonauts is set in such "desperate" times. The Xenonauts were created to intercept, hunt down and destroy any and all alien species. In some cases, they were instructed to capture the aliens and bring them back for medical experiments (which is probably a worse way to die). There was no room for negotiation or any other considerations. During such bleak, desperate and fearful times I'm afraid posters with slogans like "destroy the alien" would be quite prevalent around the world. For the sake of supporting the war effort against the alien invaders, governments would likely spread this type of fearful propaganda to ensure that the message was heard loud and clear - we are not negotiating with the aliens or running away and hiding...we are intent on killing every last one of them. Having said all that - perhaps I'll go back to the drawing board and submit a different proposal. There are many propaganda posters focused on ideas of "pride" and "victory." Although these concepts are grossly exaggerated as well in the context of the propaganda pieces they are set it - basing a Xenonauts image on one of these might be less disturbing. After all, this is just a game - thankfully!
  2. Hi Everyone, I wanted to try my hand at creating a poster for this game as i'm really enjoying playing it and i'd love to help out. Here is a mock-up of an propaganda-like image where the "x" is represented by four fists crushing down on an alien. I'm curious if others think this is an interesting concept...
  3. 2 questions about the "real game" : 1. How will the story be presented? How will we know more about what is going on and be compelled to move further along in the game? 2. How will weapons and items be unlocked in the game? Currently it seems to take quite some time to get new items. Research takes a while to finish and some technologies don't have an immediate effect, they are just the basis for other technologies. Will research times be faster in the real version, or will there perhaps be more things to research at once so that the player is continually unlocking and expanding their options? Similarly, how will new vehicles and planes become available?
  4. Ok - great...so when the real game comes out, after about 6 hours into it, I should be seeing a lot more variety and story developed and a ton more options to play around with? I was worried, that the pacing would be so slow, it would require a lot more hours to play through.
  5. Hi Everyone, To start, I want to confess that I know almost nothing about the original X-com game and am completely new to the series. I am an avid video game player and have spent hundreds of hours playing games across multiple platforms and genres...but unfortunately, I never played X-com. When I heard about this game I was very excited and interested, and i wanted to support the devs by paying for a copy up front. I downloaded the game yesterday and have spent about 6 hours with it. Usually, after about 6 hours, I can get pretty far in a game and can see the variety it offers as well as the depth it contains. This leads me to my main question - over the last 6 hours I'm not sure why, but the variety and pacing seem to be completely lacking in the game. I seem to be doing the same things over and over. I intercept spaceships using the same 3 planes and in the same combat scenario (i.e. the alien craft always come at me in the same pattern and I always use the same combat technique to beat them). Afterwards, I go and retrieve the alien crew using the same map tiles and pretty much the same strategy. My soldiers use the same weapons and my vehicles (or rather my single vehicle) just does the same thing over and over. I thought there would be more variety in the game and I just wanted to ask why it might be missing. Is it because: 1. This game is still in Alpha and the final game will have a lot more mission types, a richer story, a lot more items and a lot more options? 2. Is it because i need more patience and a game like Xenonauts takes 20+ hours to really open up and show me variety? 3. Is this just a tech demo of the game and the real actual gameplay is mostly 90% absent? I feel very bad to say this, but I'm finding myself getting a little bored with the repetitive nature of the game. However, it seems like such an interesting game with so much to offer that I'm just trying to figure out how to get to "the good stuff" where i have a lot of options and interesting weapons and fun missions, etc. I'm sorry for my comments - which may seem a bit immature to the more experienced X-com players - but if anyone can help me to understand what i'm missing, that would really help. Maybe I just need to give the game 6 months more to develop before coming back to it? Thanks p.s. despite my comments above, this really is a great start and what I have played so far seems to point to a very good game in the end.
