  1. Well, i you get the content ID option within your youtube channel, you can customize it pretty well. But you can't get this if you don't have something like 100K+ subs. So the alternative is to use a service like Tunecore or Imusician, but there is little to no customizable options. If 'd have to wirte an email to whitelist a channel, everytime...

Too bad YT doesn't really care about the "little" ones. For the moment it is either "all" or "nothing".

  2. It's me guys. I officially released X1's music of platforms such as Spotify, Deezer, etc.

I had the option to choose the youtube content ID for that, so i went for it after it was suggested. Turns out i had very little action over it and lots of youtubers started emailing me, so i had iMusician remove the youtube content ID on this album.

I was curious to see what revenue such an option could bring. But, i'll try that on a personal project, and not tracks that will end up on gameplay videos. So, no worries for Xenonauts 2's soundtrack ! ;-)

Dynamic music is important - I've recently been playing Zelda, that has different tunes depending on your location and the enemies you're facing. Whilst xenonauts is not aiming for the same niche as nintendo's flagship, that game does benefit from immersion and the urge to be played for longer sessions, in part, because of its reactive music.

Changing the music depending on the biome would, I assume, be fairly easy in that the variable for the biome doesn't change much. It'd add a subtle bit of variety - ground combat can get stale and in that it is the main bit of the game, it needs what spice it can get. The creepy music for exploring is perfect, but I'd be hard pressed to argue what is appropriate music for the more strategic thinking bits of the game - combat is not exactly fast paced in xenonauts.

Dynamic music is an interesting feature but it may also sometimes be annoying. I'm not sure it would exactly fit for Xenonauts, seeing the slow pace it can have. It also requires much more work... or at least needs to be decided right at the start of the project.

  5. Personally I find that the interception music seems... inappropriately jaunty and upbeat, even whimsical. Instead of being filled with the dread that TFTD's inspired, I always find my shoulders shifting about in tune with the melody. I guess it's warranted in confrontations with small scouts and the like, but something ominous and menacing is definitely in order for larger, more dangerous ships and formations.
One other thing I would say about the Ambience is related to one of the music pieces on the Battlescape.

It the music track Ground Combat 2 from about the 1:30 mark until about 3:00 minute mark. There is this string bit that sounds like something out of one of the older James Bond films - really out of place in terms of all the other soundtracks. I'd love it if that section was removed!

The problem here is that it is impossible to satisfy everybody. Some people love the interception music, some don't. Same as for certain passages of the other tunes.

  6. There are 3 Ground Day musics, and 3 for the night parts. Not all are in the game yet, but they should be played randomly. Day when its day, night when night.

In the current build, you should have random plays between day 1 and day 2. If not, then you've got a bug. I'd be curious to know if other people get the 2 soundtracks to play randomly. Last time i tested the game, it worked. But that was a couple months back...

  7. Aleksi, to clarify, the game will come with the Original Soundtrack, including all the music that is in the game, but there is more music you composed that won't be included because those tracks weren't included in the game, and you'll be selling those separately?

Personally, I'd sell them as a bonus disk in a bundle, so after I get the main Xenonauts soundtrack I can buy your bonus disk and have Xenonauts Disk 2 add on with minimal changes, if any (I use iTunes, if that makes my comment make more sense).

Anyway, regardless of how you sell them, I'm excited to support you, and to get more awesome music.

    Thanks Aleksi!

    Hey GizmoGomez,

Yes, you are correct. Though we didn't talk with Chris yet about a bundle. I guess we'll see that once the game is launched. I didn't figure out the price yet for selling the soundtrack on my own, but it will be cheap. I still don't know how much music i'll put in yet. I'll look at all that once all the music is done. The best option would be to have the possibility of including the music in the game, so you can have more diversity. I will think of something. ;-)

  8. Generally i think giving the soundtrack to guys that paid more is always a good idea, if that is not expansive for the game company. Don't know how it works with the law either. I would appreciate if you can buy the soundtrack also as extra if you didn't pay for the ElitePreorder. I often want to buy the soundtrack from a game but it isn't possible or ridicullus complicated which leads to the result that i have to look for alternative ways to get it, although i really want to pay something suitable directly to the developement/composition guys.

Well, once the game is out, i will sell the music with tunes not included in the game.

The original score will be included with a game purchase. So whoever wants to support the composer and have extra music in the same mood will be able to get that.

  9. I suppose there's also the question of how many devs you want to meet. :-)

I've never quite understood why top kickstarter tiers have things like "spend a day with our dev team!", "have lunch and paintball with our Dev team!" and "have a quiet candlelight dinner for two with our lead Dev!" Often the least appealing of the reward tiers, especially when you've seen them in the begging videos.

*Meet the composer, and have him play at your wedding dinner* :D
