  1. Sounds great!! One thing to note, last version I shot down a UFO in Cuba and when I entered the battle it put me on a arctic map. Pretty sure it doesn't snow in Cuba, especially since I live in Florida
  2. I'm looking through the "soldiernames.xml" and it's pretty straight forward, but I do have a few questions concerning the "chance" value number. Is 1 the high value and 10 the low value? It looks that way but I wanted to check before I start changing some things around. Also changing the chance under the Nation Name or Ethnicity value changes the chances of units from that nation or ethnicity to appear in your troops correct? Thanks for any info. I'm just trying to add a little more national diversity to my troops. It seems to heavily favor the Eastern European nationalities by default and I'd like to increase the American, Russian, and Asian count a bit.
  3. Well, you can always do what I do. Don't read any of the tech descriptions or research unlocks. That way you can get some beta play in, while keeping a bunch of it new and fresh for your first full play-through on the full version. Note: I haven't followed my own advice there %100, but, I also found a wording error in one of the early descriptions (I'll have to go back and look to see exactly which one). In one of the tech descriptions there's a extra word, either and or as. If it isn't spotted by someone else I'll look for it again and point it out to Chris or who-ever needs it so they can tweak the wording.
  4. I didn't read the whole thread so sorry if this has been asked already and I missed it. Has this Hotfix been applied to the Steam version I'm downloading as I type this? Or should I apply this to that version after it finishes? Also, great work getting these out. I'm sure things are hectic as hell with the team right now pushing out all these versions and updates and making it work on Mac and Linux as well.
  5. WOOT!!! STEAM!!!! YAY!!!! No more craptastic Desura!!!! You da man, Chris!!!
  6. About the CTD's I had. I now think that might not have been the game (at least for mine). After restarting my system and clearing the cache from the programs I had open before, Xenonauts hasn't crashed on me once now and I've been playing all morning. I also tried recreating my save/load crashing and couldn't. @Sathra Yeah, I just realized I didn't mean the lizards/sebs. I meant the Caesans. The normal humanoid enemies, not the lizards. I could one shot them with a normal rocket before and I can't now. The Seb balance seems good. My bad. Yeap, see above..oops. I meant the Caesans. A rocket to the face could kill one of them before and can't now.
  7. I have also had a few CTD's, once trying to just delete an auto save. Another when my dropship was on the way back from a mission. Even though 15.5 had some issues, I didn't get any CTDS. They seem minor though. Not happening much.
  8. Even the ones with pistols. Normal first mission sebs. No armor or anything. Usually a direct hit from a frag rocket would take one down (as in kill it, not stun). Now they take that plus some. I could see them surviving if they had some armor or they were the ones you hit later with blue shirts and plasma rifles, but these are the seb civis I think.
  9. I'll gladly port over to help test the Steam version if needed, Chris. Also, I found a couple miss-wordings in the Xenopedia if you'd like me to send those to you.
  10. Was the HP upped for the Sebs or was the damage reduced on some weapons? They used to die from a single rocket a lot of the times, now they don't.
  11. There's also a sound issue for me. Maybe unrelated to hotfix. I can turn the sound effects down in the options but they are only turned down on the players turn. Aliens shooting on their turn is still loud despite having sound effects turned down. If I turn them almost all the way down then they turn down during alien turn as well, but they are almost nonexistent during player turn at that point.
  12. Yes, do start over. Save game compatability will be an issue from version to version.
  13. I never checked Xml's or anything for the units. Maybe it just seemed like the ceasan's were shooting farther. I never counted the tiles either though. I do know it's fixed so they won't shoot you from where-ever you are on the map through cover. Just once you're in range. Hopefully a quick exe hotfix can take care of that. Aside from that (and I guess picking up combat shields) this build seems good. I've never used the shields so I never ran into any of the bugs with them.
  14. Found a few minor things, but I've only played 3 combat missions in my new game. It's the Caesan's that can see and shoot WAAAY too far. The Seb's range seems to be ok (so far). The aliens don't try to shoot you from a mile away at least, you have to be in range of them, but once you're in range they will try to shoot through the wall to be able to shoot you. I haven't had any combat shield crashes because I've never used one, not ever. This release is very playable, but when facing Caesans it's far more challenging with their sight range being what it is. I'd say tone that back some maybe.
  15. Edit: Ok, unpacking the standalone on my main drive it does indeed play just fine. It must be something I'm missing on my secondary storage drive, so, I'm happy to report it does indeed work for me now with the zip I already downloaded Yay!!! You and me both!!! Come on Steam release!!!!
  16. I updated Java, everything is updated actually. This version of the standalone is the first one that wouldn't run for me. Running it off my secondary hard-drive. The Desura installed version would run, but not the standalone. It keeps telling me it's not a valid win32 app (I'm running 64 bit Win7). I'm re-unpacking the standalone now to my C drive instead of my D drive to see if that makes a difference. If it doesn't work I guess I'll wait for a day or two until Desura get's it's stuff together. Still confused over why the standalone won't run for me though. Hopefully I'll know more after I try it on the C drive.
  17. Yeah I saw where Chris said the Desura people would have it "in the morning". Unfortunately we had a lightning strike the day before yesterday and it knocked out our internet and phone so today is the first day I've been online in two days. I had hoped maybe "in the morning" meant this morning for me (timezone differences and all). As with the last update I was reading people here on the forums saying they were playing the new update but neither my Desura nor the new standalone showed up on my end until 3 or 4 hours later ,no idea why other people using Desura would have it on theirs and it not be on mine, and no one else seemed to say anything about the standalone not launching for them so I figured maybe my download got corrupted somehow. It's just confusing on this end.
  18. Ugh...stupid question. I just completely deleted Xenonauts out of Desura. I didn't remove it from the account, just did a full uninstall. When I look at the standalone downloads the top one that says "Xenonauts Alpha BETA Candidate 4" has a file size of 4,505.87mb and when I try to DL it, it says v18.5zip. To try out 18.51 should I launch Desura and install from there, or should I go ahead and redownload that standalone? When I downloaded that standalone version a last time, it saves as a zip with a file size of 4.39 Gigs and that version wouldn't run when I unpacked it. It only said it's not a valid Win32 app. Should I try to DL that standalone again? Should I reinstall through the Desura client? Or should I wait longer for Desura to hopefully update the standalone client on their web page? I really don't want to download that standalone again just to have it not run and I don't want to do a re-install through Desura if it's not going to install the newest version 18.51 . Thanks for any info.
  19. John "The Breacher" Thothkins. Former terrorist suicide bomber who joined Xenonauts to fight the alien jihad against Earth. Fighting alongside of the Russian troops he was fighting just months ago in Afghanistan. Now he's always the first man to breach the entrance of downed UFO's, screaming "Death to the Alien Infidels!!", machine gun blazing, with two belts of live grenades strapped around his chest ready to go off. But brave Thotkins fears not, for he knows 72 virgins await him in the afterlife.
  20. You know, I don't see not one Barbara on that list. Yet in every game I play I end up with enough "Barbaras" I could make a whole squad of nothing but Barbaras. Some of then have different last names and are from different countries, but there's still way too many Barbaras...lol.
  21. Much appreciated . I was just playing and decided to test before I saw your reply. It's exactly like that. They will see and target my troopers but only if it's one who has triggered the aliens reaction fire. If it's one who came into LOS after the aliens used their LOS the trooper is invisible to them. As long as they had a clear LOS on a NPC they would take that shot and ignore any troopers they didn't first spot with their reaction fire. I'll put the hotfix back in and just deal with the 3 aliens getting away when I end the combat turn. No biggy, and I'd much rather have the aliens shooting at me from the get-go. With my play style I never even noticed them not shooting at me because when they did it was always because I did set off reaction fire. I noticed them running blindly into my firing line but I figured they were just out of TU's or something by the time they got there. Indeed Chris and the team have been Rocking out the patches, updates, and content too. They're really on their game. Go Team Go!!
  22. Something odd to report with the hotfix. I saved the previous 18.5 exe in a different place (as it seemed to be playing fine for me). I dropped in the exe from the hotfix and continued the game from last night where I had saved mid-battle. I finish my turn and hit end turn and the mission ends with the remaining aliens "Getting Away". I quit the game and reverted to the exe from 18.5. Reloaded the game and continued the same saved game in mid-battle. Finished my turn and the aliens on the map are still there and fighting and not getting away. Has anyone else had a mid-mission saved game go like this with the hotfix exe? Also, how come the aliens in my game seem to be shooting at me (and seeing me to shoot me) just fine? Also, my Desura still says Xenonauts is stuck at %100-Updating. When I launch the game it says it's playing 18.5 (unless I put the hotfix back in of course). Also when I tried to download the standalone version and unpack and run it, it wouldn't launch and was missing a lot of files that were in the Desura installed version which I think might have something to do with it telling me Xenonauts wasn't a Win32 app when I tried to launch the standalone. Any clues what's going on with any of these?
  23. How come the aliens were shooting at me before? I never noticed the bug of them not shooting at me. Current saved game I have 2 troopers in the hospital even, from being shot at (and hit) by aliens.
