  1. Music from that period is pretty awful, except for Pink Floyd, so I wouldn't bother. I'm very happy with the music style as it is.

I'm pretty impressed with someone mentioning Suicide Commando though, that is (or was) one of my favorite artists :P But I wouldn't like that as much in a game, I'd keep some creepy style music like in Terror from the Deep. You catch atmosphere most with music imho.

  2. Lots of sweet stuff most people would like to see ! I agree with most except the intro movie. I know it give a polished look to the game but it's just a one time 2-3 minutes. I think the money could be invested in more 'reused' features.

Also the Soviet weapons might not be worth the effort, this would mean more weapons that would be used less.

I know it's not really possible but I still like to mention : 'Females'

More music sequences would be nice (I really love the music so far !), also for the air combat.

  3. Hah, love the pics!

How about a aftermath picture with the alien head instead. As in the xenonauts just liberated an alien controlled town, and are crossing out the warning (like your last picture) with something like alien blood.

So a rubble or damaged town with a lone xenonaut walking away from the sign, blood dripping from his finger. In the background maybe some scientists carting off the alien bodies and equipment.

I'm afraid that's out of my league :P I'm just an amateur, not an artist. I love postapocalyptic manipulated pictures, wished I could do stuff like that though, it's very cool but very hard to make a normal picture into that.

Check this guy out btw : http://alexiuss.deviantart.com/gallery/3239976#/d18h2us 40 hours in one piece and that's when you're talented :D

I just like to take random pictures and put stuff on it :P

  4. Well I think it's refreshing to have it happen in the past really, it will have its own feel, it also fits the retro graphics style really well. And it hasn't been done a lot in other games I guess, so I think it's great they chose the cold war time area.

But if this game is successful I'm hoping on a TFTD-style future timeframe sequel :D. Also TFTD was my favorite by far from the 3 original X-COM games, so under water missions would be awesome as well ;)

  5. looking forward to it! (Yeah if you could post that alien head picture, or where you got it from, that'd be good!)

I just used the logo Chris posted in the other topic, so yeah that's like 100 pixels enlarged to 500 or more, not ideal hehe.

I'll do some tomorrow, 1h30am here now ;)

  6. I like it! Could You try something for me though (or post the separate images so someone else can try it). I'm liking the wall idea, but not so much the poster. Perhaps just have the alien face and the line through it sprayed/painted onto the wall?

Or another one would be an alien face (no strike through) with the words, "Alien sighted here" or something similar.

Basically these would get across the idea that everyday people are seeing the aliens, and they are the ones putting these up. Ties in with the Xenonauts as a secret organisation, and not really worrying about thier public image on a one to one basis, just concentrating on fighting the aliens

Could also have a few signs sprayed on doors saying things like "No greys allowed" or "Humans only," but that's a bit more comical ("F*&^ing Prawns!")

Another idea would be posters for some kind of war bonds perhaps... Invest in your secret organisation here! =p

I just took that wall + poster from some free website, didn't want to spend too much time on the poster itself :)

I'll try some of these sprays, that's a cool idea !

Could use a higher res picture of that alien though :P

  7. Agreed, I also don't like the idea of being able to use allcCommanders in a mission, it really makes no sense and the whole purpose of rank obsolete. Heck even having more commanders than anythign else in your whole army is odd...

I don't think this will happen unless you start reloading the game every time one of your guys kicks the bucket.

And this will be the result, more tempting to do even more savegame reloads as you want the best squad... ok this is something you make up for yourself but still, it removes flavor. Will be the opposite for me probably, less reloads as I would feel like cheating having all super high ranked soldiers. I like having 1 commander, he's the man, prevent him from dying at big costs etc... that's flavor and coolness !

  8. Vector drawing (from an existing photo of anything) is a small hobby of mine. I'm terrible at drawing things out of my head, if I had a base (without using any copyrighted material of course), I could try making a cold war-style propaganda style (without patriotism) poster ;)

  9. Well the actual alien technology tiles are recoverable, just like in X-Com. If you go into a UFO blazing away and destroy everything, you won't have an awful lot to recover. But if you capture it intact...

We've gone further than X-Com in the sense that all the alien tiles have an Alien Alloys and Alenium content, so even destroying relatively pointless parts of the UFO still damages the amount of recoverable materials.

The great news keeps on coming, wicked ! I'm completely into that amount of detail, ow yeah !

  10. Didn't Chris say the tech tree was about 2 or 3 times larger than X-com's?

Then I'll be sleeping well ;)

Oh and I see the premium badge is active, nice ! Thanks for the hard work on solving all the website and pre-order issues as fast you could, Chris ! So great to see the future of my favorite type of game is in dedicated good hands !

  11. This sounds very interesting and a awesome addition to the game, I love it when you can raise the level of difficulty for yourself just based on extra objectives that actually rewards you for it.

I think it would be cool to get bonuses for not destroying structures as well. What if there was some awesome reward or alien tech inside of a building that got destroyed if you blew up the walls?

Hah, so far for Disruptor Pulse Launcher nukefest on alien colonies in Terror form the Deep :P This is a prime example of raising difficulty for yourself, this could potentially make the game WAY harder, which is always nice !

  12. It again all comes down to that overarching word for all aspects of the game ... Balance. As long as there is a balance between the starting troops to rookies in late game, whether that is better rookies, ability to train them prior to engagement, or just better weaponry and armour, then people will find a way to play the game that suits them

I agree with this completely. The issue 'balance' is very relative in a game like this, as there is no multiplayer to be reckoned with (and if there was it shouldn't be competitive). Which is a blessing, in a lot of games the single player experience is ruined by balancing the game for multiplayer until everyone is basically doing the same thing, using teh same weapons, etc...

The great thing about turn based single player games should be all the choices you have, there shouldn't be one way to do things.

If you want to bring a full rookie squad you should be able to do so to, just because you want to, nothing should prevent you from doing that, so yes let the rookies flow in ;)
