  1. Usually for this type of feature, in turn based games, there is a UI button that toggles all buildings or level to transparent. This is the easiest method to code and be useful to the player. Play would revolve around moving the unit into place or near it, toggle transparency to get him in the right place, then toggle it off. Should be easy to code a all dodads on ground floor, apply transparency layer, type action.
  2. My only complaint is that you cannot make the walls somehow transparent or not there. Sometimes when trying to fit into a bottom left area with no other soldiers makes the placement in-exact at times. Other than that, no need to rotate.
