19.6 HF2 Ground Combat - Killing last alien. Soldier outside, alien inside cause lock

If the last alien is inside the crashed ship and I shoot and kill him without entering the ship (soldier standing outside the opened door), the game freezes on the ground combat screen. I can't do anything and need to "X" out of the game and reload a save.

Going back to the last save then entering the ship, before shooting the alien, then ground combat ends normally.

This appears to happen every time (several different ground combats) I kill the last alien without entering the ship, it's always been in light scouts so far, but that may be because I am new and haven't fought many different ships yet.
