In the final days of August, 1979, Earth is overrun. Crushed by overwhelming force, the leaders of humanity surrender to the might of unknown extraterrestrial aggressors. Immediately, the aliens begin harvesting both people and resources while constructing fortifications and strongholds from which to rule their new domain. The Xenonauts project, which had been established two decades before, receives orders to disband. But, refusing the order, they instead mobilize for war as humanity's last hope.
HOW DID YOU ENTER MY BRAIN?
I've been running a D&D game with this exact concept (based on Firaxis X-COM, 'cause that's what my players are familiar with) for almost a year now.
-
I never noticed the original thread. Seeing this now, I am in physical pain from how much I want it. The appearance and mechanical niche are both great, and the Xenopedia entry you put together in the OP is (like every Xenopedia entry you've done) spot-on; the mixture of sarcasm and information is perfect.
-
Oh, yeah, there it is. Thanks, don't know why I didn't notice that before.
-
I mess around with mods and stuff because it's kinda fun and I really like the feeling of successfully making far too many mods work together. Anyway, I'm just now back after not touching Xenonauts for a few months, and this Modular System seems neat, but I'm having some trouble working it out. Is there a tutorial or a FAQ or something somewhere that I just didn't notice?
-
You're doing good work here. I approve.
-
The download link just downloads an empty .zip folder.
-
Sorry to bother you, but I'm messing around with combining this mod and some others (strictly for personal use; I would never distribute your work), and I wanted to know what you altered in researches.xml, if you don't mind telling me.
-
Khall, I've been having the same install issue as you were above. Did you find a solution?
-
No, sorry, it hasn't yet. Need to set aside some time to look at it properly. Although I've just had a thought about a cure that would be pretty simple. Might have a quick look tomorrow and see if it works.
Cool, thanks. I was just asking because I'm just starting a new playthrough now and looking at mods I haven't used before.

X:CE 0.26 introduced some air combat AI changes which will possibly make this mod too hard at the moment.
According to above the OP was last edited July 31st. Has this mod been updated to deal with UFO AI in 0.26? Sorry to bother you.

I like it! This was one of the features I missed most when I migrated from X-COM to Xenonauts. If you don't mind me going on a slight tangent, wasn't there a thing on the Kickstarter page saying they might have done something like this for pilots if they had reached enough funding? Will do you anything like that as well?
EDIT: Didn't notice this thread was almost a month old until after I posted. Sorry 'bout that.

Cool. I'll give it a look, I'm always down for reading something written by a stranger on the internet. Although to be honest I usually prefer reading (and chortling at) fanfiction for things I don't like.
Are you going to be posting here again when you update, or is up to us to keep abreast of your work?

>Clear gameplay improvements
>ruin perfectly good game
As much as I hate to be this unoriginal...

You could self-publish. One of my favourite books ("The Best Laid Plans", by Terry Fallis) was released on the internet as a series of podcasts by the author before a publisher picked it up. Later it won the Stephen Leacock Award, and this past January the sitcom based on it premiered (admittedly, it's on CTV, but still).

I like it! Always nice to have something to read. A question, on another topic; is your name "Feather-Wing-Love" or "Feather-Win-Glove"?

BRB renaming all my soldiers "Adama"

Back in days of old, the ground combat artwork for UFO's had not been completed, but buildings had been. In order to simulate a UFO with the available assets, a particular building was nominated as actually being a UFO. Thus was the Evil Shed born.
Holy balls that's awesome. The deepest lore.

People who are not Solver and want to get involved with the community coding can now read the details here: http://www.goldhawkinteractive.com/forums/showthread.php/10965-Community-Coder-Program%21
Not Solver, though. He is forbidden.
Bring back the Evil Shed! What is the Evil Shed? It must be before my time. Is it anything like The Dread Gazebo?

Problem?
There would also be the problem of the bear counting as a civilian in mission summary.
Pvt. Jenkins: Sir, all civilinas are dead, I repeat, all civlians are dead.
Cpl. Eales: Jenkins, are you blind, there is one still alive behind those trees.
Pvt. Jenkins: But, sir, that is a bear!
Cpl. Eales Cover the bear with your own body Jenkins. We cannot afford any more civilian casuelties.
Pvt. Jenkins: ?!
Cpl. Eales: Now look Jenkins, you're a good lad but Brezhnev is threatning that the Soviets will leave the alliance if we let anymore civilians die. They are already on the verge, Jenkins. Last week a light Ufo scout terrorised Kamchatka cos we didn't think that it was strategically important and none of our interceptors can fly to that God forsaken place.
Pvt. Jenkins: But why do they care about a bear?
Cpl. Eales: It's about national symbols, Jenkins. The aliens are targeting national symbols... Most of Mother Russia's distilleries have already been destroyed. Without vodka, bears are Russias only reliable manpower...If we let bears die too... the soviet block will surely fall.

This has been mentioned a few times before. As far as I know, it either can't be done or won't due to time constraints.
-
From pure curiosity, is that the point? To appeal to as many and as much to increase the scores and sales?
Clearly everyone thinks the weapon tiers suck.
That statement is a fallacy. Everyone who's taken the time to bitch about it thinks the weapon tiers suck.

I'd say he's at least partially inspired by Baltar from the new series of Battlestar Galactica.
I just started watching that (at the insistence of my friend's dad; he just pushed a stack of blu-ray discs into my hands and told me to watch) and that is spot on. I am hyped beyond belief by this revelation.

Well, you could make a two handed pistol variety as "Pistol with handheld scanner" and then give it the big reaction modifier.
Honestly, that sounds like the best solution, especially if what kabill said above is true.

At least I didn't send you to TVTropes.
[v0.01]Expanded Ballistics - Realism and Flavor
in Modding Discussion

I like it! I see a lot of mods that expand the selection of ballistic weapons, but they all add gunpowder ballistics to the later parts of the tech tree, rather than widen the selection at the beginning, which is kinda what I've wanted for a while.
