I'm on an i5 3570 at 2560x1440. Getting the crash when loading first ground combat. It takes a very long time for the loading bar to move across, over a minute, and then crashes when it nears the end. It used to load pretty fast before.

The fact that you had basically forgotten Alenium and Alloys exist suggest to me the problem lies there, not somewhere else.
Definitely the big issue. I think a big part of the problem is that the UI doesn't make it clear what does or doesn't use alenium and alloys. The only time I realized I even needed them was when I tried to build in a different base from my main one that didn't have any. The cost to transport them across was also far higher than the difficulty in just getting them directly, so I just built stuff only in my primary base. I'm not convinced the transfer costs actually add any decent gameplay benefits either...
Either way, using alenium and alloys as a method to get players to do or not do missions is not working at present because it's not pressing or visible on the player. Might be a UI issue though.

Is this why aliens started shooting through the doors of the UFO this afternoon? That surprised the heck out of me, really changed my normal "form up at the door, then open it and kick butt" strategy for entering ships.
Not just UFO doors. On the desert maps they shoot through the plateaus too.

How are you guys getting all the way to a Valkyrie? How are you even getting passed the 2nd mission or so? Assigning people to dropships makes the game crash...

Is it possible to blow up the red un-openable doors in alien bases? I've tried and it doesn't seem to work.. It would be a nice way to attack the aliens from two sides.

If you use the flying scout armor, and while flying you detect an alien, the soldier hovers in mid air. If you give the soldier in the air a command to attack, he fires a shot (looks a bit strange), and then when it hits the alien the game crashes.

That's a problem; the Foxtrots are supposed to be the heavy hitters, and yet with the right maneuvering they are weaker than the condor, total damage wise. We need to double the torpedo damage, and double the HP of the non-evasive ships. This way, dogfighters have their niche in taking out the maneuverable ships, but can't deal nearly as much damage as foxtrots can to the larger ships. Also, foxtrots wouldn't be any more or less powerful than they are now compared to the larger ships, because the damage and the HP would have increased together.
Wow, I think the UFO battles are hard enough as it is. Rather give the Foxtrots some extra missiles and leave the rest alone.

Sorry my bad, I mean an alien base mission. I've been through the base in every spot and there's nothing.

I seem to have killed all the aliens on a base mission, but the mission doesn't end. I'm pretty sure all aliens are dead since if you abort the mission it says 0 aliens escaped? Or is the alien just hiding in the walls somewhere?
I have a save game, but for some reason the manage attachments button gives:

pp.sav was made a couple minutes after the autosave. I think I changed a few things in one of the bases and maybe a day or two of time passed. Then I made the pp.sav and exited the game. When I tried loading it later it crashed.
Maybe the save had not completed writing to disk when I exited the game after?
