  1. Just to clarify: renaming hiddenmovement.png did nothing. When I renamed hiddenmovement_small.png though, the problem was solved.

BTW Tiesemans, that's what I call a burning spirit! :)

    Well how about this:

It's not the jpg "hiddenmove" that causes the problem.( does not change anything if you rename or remove)

If you rename map hiddenmovement to hiddenmovementold it's ok , you see title Alien turn + all movement. ( even better than with hidden movement screen)

I changed the hiddenmovement folder to hiddenmovementold and it did solve the whole hidden movement screen.

  2. You can remove the image from the game (assets/gui/GroundCombat/hiddenmovement/"hiddenmovementsmall") pretty easily. Its actually pretty nice now, though the screen does centre on black areas with alien activity which can help pinpoint aliens perhaps too easily.

Or it could be your soldiers hearing movement out in the 'unknown' zones, either one.

  3. Why are you so angry? There are thousands of other games to play if this one is constantly making you upset.

    ',:-|

    That's just it ..

Unlike many who are currently playing The Last of Us on their PS4, or BF4, Farcry 3, the latest Bioshock, or are still grinding gold and legendary gear in Diablo 3 I actively and purposely purchased a pre order key so I could FINALLY jump into a fantastic type of game I love and which has been far and away since my passion for Jagged alliance got murdered by the people from Strategy First who own the IP ...

Having said that .. I am very happy to know that Jagged Alliance FULL CONTROL has gotten the green light via kickstarter.

    http://tinyurl.com/lsqhdxn

Because my teen years (also) revolve arround 3 games: Jagged alliance, X-com and Fall out ok ok ok and a little bit of close combat, diablo, Starcraft, c&c, mechwarrior, but still the 3 mentioned are def. the backbone.

  4. Dude chill out this is an experimental build to try new stuff. They update it frequently with changes and fixes this build is to be a living growing thing. It is not a stable version as prefaced by the disclaimer to join it. Play the stable build for a stable build.

Well unlike many people I experience that (even) the experimental build is good fun, I certainly have a lot of fun, hours on end.

Thats prob. the reason why I tend to make such a fuzz about something that gets screwed up in the (experimental) updates.

  5. Ah ok turns out that they actually already did that so you can change your own hidden movement overlay to whatever you want as long as it matches the dimensions of the existing one.

Here is a quick sample of the one I just knocked up to test for anyone who is interested.

You could easily leave the border off or even remove the words as well and just have a pretty much blank image so you just get a slightly faded out screen.

    *edit* And another.

/assets/gui/groundcombat/hiddenmovement to find the image file.

Personally I think the development team needs to turn back this change *asap*.

But as long as they don't have do I create, know where to place, and have a workable *work-arround* for the transparancy screen?! So that I may see them aliens pop caps at my troops once more ?!

  6. To be fair' date=' I think that's not intended and is down to a bug - when your squad's actually taking fire or an alien moves into their line of sight, the screen's meant to go away and let you see what's happening. The hidden movement screen obscuring stuff that shouldn't be obscured happened to me a few times in v18 and earlier as well.[/quote']

But it is happening and it's p@ssing me off bigtime.

One tiny hotfix and BLAM my so much enjoyed in game action is totally screwed over ..

Gone are the moments of truth. (Did I or did I not send a trooper to his death by placing him where he stands etc.)

My God I am so irritated as we speak.

I have endured 3 missions now and I am fed up already.

If this horror continues I will end my playing asap.

  7. My personal oppinion ?!

Someone or something *killed* the game battle excitement.

Not seeing the aliens move NP.

Not seeing hidden aliens at all NP.

    Not seeing civilians move NP.

Not seeing my troopers getting shot at .. BIG Freakin MISTAKE !!!

I Want to see my boys die or not die, get shot at, bullets missing them or not, panic in the face of sudden annihalation !!!

    *Update*

Seriously people every time that stupid *hidden movement* screen shows up I get the instant urge to push it aside to see if the Alien I discovered will kill my guy(s) or not..

    Hidious developement !

I don't care if this was part of the original X-com game.

Some things are best left out and if not possible in the original then at least in this spiritual successor.

This is not an gameplay improvement at all, it's disturbingly irritating and killling my game fun.

    *update 2*

You know what ... Why not build in the option to choose for this *nonsense* via the option screen ?!

  8. I've included 2 extra files called regiments.xml and experience.xml which are the slices of strings.xml that this mod uses. What this enables you to do is copy and paste over the regiments and experiences that are in any version of strings.xml and let you use this mod with any other mod.It will also allow you to update the mod in the future yourself if you wish :)

I use first object XML editor to edit the xml files but copy and pasting sperate slices into one xml ?!

How do I do that !?

Any tips ? I learn fast as a noob but someone need to be willing to explain it to me.

    *edit*

I used wordpad to copy paste .. Just looked up where the lines start and end and the select making it totally blue and then selecting the slice totally and copy it in total over the selected area in the strings file.

I guess that then does it right ?!

  9. No way it will work with the game's modding tools function ?!

I get a strange error saying: a mod named xtended soldiers 18_51 is already installed bla bla. uninstall, error writing assets/mods can't open file assets/mods etc. etc.

If I manually copy/add it to my game which already contains an adjusted/modded file such as strings.xml it prob. will have all sorts of unwanted Consequences.

I even asked Sathra (Little Mod V4) if he and the creator of this great mod couldn't merge ?!

Otherwise I have to manually edit every single difference to have it run sync.

BTW I have 22 year old Navy seal with experience in Vietnam living in 79 someone want to clarify what I am missing ?! :P

  10. Well the thing is .. I just updated my steam version to the beta X19 version.

I tried to load your mod via the mod install menu in the main startup screen but it doesn't seem to work ?!

I mean your mod doesn't seem to get loaded into the game (I also added the starting funds in the gameconfig file you provide) ?!

  11. Downloaded the lastest version of your mod !

    Thanks man.

Just to be sure .. It's adviceable to let steam restore the original Xenonauts files and then only then overwrite the original files with your mod ?!

  12. F-14:

    First flight 21 December 1970

    Introduction 22 September 1974

    F-15:

    First flight 27 July 1972

    Introduction 9 January 1976

I'm not sure how these are unrealistic???

    You are right.

When you asume I managed to get the first flight and introduction facts wrong you are right in every single way possible.

However I ment to suggest that by keeping the 70s style tight the game gets more 70s atmosphere.

The F14 and F15 (F16) catched our imagination during the 80s and 90s Hack during movies such as TopGun and Independance day, Iron Eagle, but not the 70s even do they first entered service in the mid 70s.

When I think about 70's fighter jets I think about the F105, F4, F5, A-4, Dassault Super Etendard, Su-24, BAe Sea Harrier, Mirage F1, IAI Kfir / F-21A, Mig 23/27, Northrop YF-17 and The Sepecat Jaguar.

The Teen Series (I think) shouldn't be in this game.

But then again because there is a modified F16 in it I don't have the right to claim the other planes from the US Teen series like F14 and F15 and hack even the F18 don't have the right to be in but they are (in my perception) game changers 4th generation muscle planes and I want struggle not easy sky supremacy.

Having said this I do think that the high alltitude interception variant of the SR-71 should def. be in !

  13. I am sorry but having read the whole 12 pages I now think it is just boys with (virtual) toys .. Lego time .. enjoying the sentiment.

But for this game to have and keep it's authentic X-com sause even do it's a mod .. you need to leave every single plane out post 1979 otherwise make the game a 21st century periode game.

Even the prototype idea for some planes is just to oppertunistic. F14, F15 ?! Come on

It's more a less comfort food for thought .. Not sure how to explain but it's like with the original C&C where you could use an editor to edit the tanks and troops etc. making it more fun or at least giving you that sensational "that's more like it" feeling when you gave a mammoth extra rockets or let it do more damage ..

  14. So what did I do to try and find a way around !?

Tried different base, different empty hangar ..

Made sure more then enough building materials were available.

Decommisioned every single plane in one base in favor of 1 to be build Corsair ..

    Everything to no avail ..

Again frustrating and a clear reminded why not to get to excited about a game when still in beta :-P

The hourse and joy I loose in this way are killing my mood.

  15. Can you please attach your save file?

Save files are located at: \Documents\Xenonauts\

Please note that there are a few bugs regarding the save game corruption, and we are working on those. You issue might be one of these instances.

    Here goes:

This is the savegame that cannot be won or ended successfully without crashing.

    http://www62.zippyshare.com/v/91852984/file.html

And below is the savegame that gets made when you win but the game crashes.

    http://www62.zippyshare.com/v/60034710/file.html

    *edit*

BTW aborting the mission also results in a crash !
