  1. Ouch!

Just make your own copy and write it yourself, Jim! Thats what Im doing.

And incidentally, declassified reports from the ACTUAL CIA and airforce from the 1970s are often just as poorly written, and full of spelling mistakes (no spell checker on those old typewriters)

I think Chris has done a fantastic job overall, and is rightly proud of his creative writing, so please, more tact.

Agreed, the writing is awesome. I also think it deserves some good proofreading, which seems to be taken care of. Unless we're changing all the fonts to the old typewriter font. Then the spelling mistakes should stay. :)

  2. I hope that a333 will come and say something about his work. I would like to say on both a333's and my behalf thank-you to everyone who has commented so far. And wow! Bundled with the game as a mod? Well, that's all the incentive I need! While I love the positive messages, I would appreciate any criticism or thoughts you might like to give as we continue to release more of the class guide.

Some notes on the descriptive text.

Getting the right level of dry wit is very hard. It's really easy to make the Director of Research appear as if he hates everyone and everything, and that isn't how the DoR is presented in the offical xenopedia text. The DoR strikes me as a man who knows just how smart he is, he's more than a little egocentric and he has a very strong alpha male personality. He's probably published, and he's in the best position possible to be the father of not simply one branch of science, but a flourishing oaken tree. His peers are the ones who can keep up with him, and everyone else? Well, I imagine in his world the important people are the people who actually figure out how things work, and no-one but his peers appreciates just how hard it is to get from a blank blackboard to E=mc2. To put it bluntly, he's frustrated. He'll try and tell a solider something, but because he expects the solider to keep up, rather the DoR than slow down, it'll go right over that soldier's head, which makes the DoR cross (why in God's name did I bother flapping my lips for this cloth-headed baboon?) His sarcasm draws from this bitter well, and I try to let it leak into the text without becoming overwhelming.

Like everyone else, I think these are great. If it hasn't been said already, there are some word choice things I could help improve. I wish I could clean up some of the copy in the game, too, but I don't want to step on any toes.

  3. Mac Pro 1,1 (2007)

Processor: Two 3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon

    Memory: 2 GB, 667 MHz DDR2 FB-DHMM

    Video: ATI Radeon HD2600

    Xenonauts V17.1

Great work so far. It's come a long way since the early demo videos I've seen. Some of these have been pointed out, but I'll just include everything (hopefully it's of some help):

    1) Had the Chinook land with its ass 4 squares away from Farm map edge; so I couldn't unload armor.

    2) Had two soldiers with same name; my call sign (name) change was not reflected on mission (old name displayed).

    3) Stuck on pause in 2nd ariel encounter with alien fighter trio while retreating to base from alien dog fight.

    4) Crash when solo alien fighter bugs out of dogfight without firing.

    5) Crash 2nd encounter retreating from 3 alien fighters.

    6) Terror in Budapest, crash after first turn, or crash with alien return fire on first turn.

    7) Still can't expand window or make full screen.

Some other things that may be by design or are less important (or probably go beyond Mac), but bug me enough to include:

    8) Can't hire new soldiers until after first month.

    9) Half the menus have spelling/grammar errors: "Can't pay mainenence ...", "Items ordered to HQ Alpha has been arrived."

    10) Stock human weapons and armor (for soldiers, vehicles and aircraft) appear to be unlimited. I remember how basic weapon ammo (especially fighter jet ammo) and body armor kept engineers busy while you were researching advancements. Engineers basically sit out the first month.

Again, great work so far. Keep it going!

One last thing: haven't been able to figure out how to rotate soldiers like UD. Have seen it done in online gameplays, but haven't found it myself. XC:UD was right click, correct? Doesn't seem to work on my Mac.

  4. Hey all. Haven't bought yet, just checking out previews. I'm a Mac user, don't hate. David Blake was my all-star from X-Com: UFO Defense; lost him two turns before completing the final mission ... My youngest brother cried. New X-Com looks weak, so I'm hoping this will be the thing. So many good/bad suggestions on this forum, I'm also hoping y'all can cut through and just make it great.
