  1. Still don't know exactly, we're still on track to release beta this month and we'll see how horribly broken it turns out to be when we do. That'll define how long until release :)

It's been nearly 4 years since I started work on this game now, I don't think anyone else wants it to be done more than I do...

Working Beta was promised/due in October 2012 around when XEU came out...it won't be this month. Prove me wrong.

  2. OP here. Some clarification = I'm not a troll, not a kid (college educated 30+), not trying to flame or offend. But I don't blindly believe what people say or what they naively hope will happen, actions are the only dependable measure. I do agree that my original title and tone was not the most diplomatic.

The reason for the post was three-fold. I was very disappointed with EU and needed a better XCOM fix, I hold people accountable for their "promises" (October Xeno Beta never even came close to happening), and I have been let down on almost every pre-order from the indy/defunct Beyond Protocol to other AAA games (SWTOR, etc).

I will gladly pay full price for a good game, but if I gave you $30 today or even $300, it wouldn't move the development dial at all. What is discouraging is that the free press Xeno received this year is basically forgotten by the casual or semi-hardcore player that can't buy the game until...? You will need significant sales AFTER launch to offset costs and try to turn a profit...unless there will be no support/updates. How will marketing be implemented and paid for? How many unit sales will equal success?

Yes the game needs to function well and be as close to done as possible to avoid a bad launch. But there is also a very good reason why business people set reachable goals and do everything possible to meet deadlines without excuses. I just hope Xeno private investors are still satisfied with the monthly "soon" mantra. I doubt this response inspires the developer or many of the pre-order customers but I do have some valid points and questions.

  3. hahaha what a misleading title and kind of whiny post. :P

way to bring down the party Mr Buzz Killington.

Ya I guess I could join the fanboys and keep saying the game is "almost done" and is ready "soon." The phrase is misguided optimism when the last news was in August. So even though I might sound sarcastic, my date might be more realistic than you want to believe.

  4. Of course, that goes without saying. Even so, having been in development for more than 3 years and entering beta (which means feature complete), even if it's another year off you could still argue that it is nearing completion (3/4 done).

Um no, you can't argue a game is near completion if the release is still more than 6 months away. Get a clue and drop the clueless optimism and confused logic, it makes you look foolish.

  5. I must say development of this game has been incredibly slow and from feedback on the forums, improvements are made in tiny baby steps when there are miles to go. So I'm curious what your over/under bets are for if/when this game will finally be released.

We really need a true XCOM game soon (XEU was somewhat fun the first time through but meh, no more for me). Actually, UFO Extraterrestrials Gold is getting me by during the wait.

  6. With Xenonauts nearing completion, is there a rough guess as to when the game will get a product page on Steam? I'd prefer to have the Steam version and not Desura's. Looking forward to seeing (and playing) the game in Valve's platform, thx.

Where in the world do you get the notion Xenonauts is "nearing completion?" This game won't come out until Q1 2013 or later.

  7. I remember buying the original XCOM game BEFORE i actually owned the Playstation to play it on...that's how good it looked (and ya im old). Here are the absolute dealbreakers of XEU:

    1. Can't sell stuff your engineers make! Really? I have a bunch of stuff I can't/won't use that required valuable time and scarce materials...frustrating. Yes you might get lucky with a country's special request...

    2. Alien corpses are needed to make advanced gear...goofy

    3. No option to choose new soldier profession (or even gender/nationality)...dumb. Half my guys were heavies ffs.

    4. Interceptor missions are just horrible..unbelievably SIMPLER than the 1994 version. I made laser/phoenix cannons for my ships...wasteful. Just wait for plasma and put on Firestorms.

    5. Support guy dies, medikits can't be used. Medikits pretty weak until you unlock his ability AND research "improved" in foundry.

    6. Shotguns suck as do the late game alloy cannons

    7. Trying to get your sniper to high ground in the larger UFO missions is meh, too high and camera gets wonky.

    8. Cover seems useless when 75% of the time my guys get hit when in partial cover (half shield).

    9. I can move and shoot but can't shoot then move and missing 95% shots but hitting 30% shots...working as intended?

    10. Early game is harder and more desperate than Late game...once alien base is neutralized, panic is manageable

I have a request for the Xenonauts creators...just finish the darn game and get it out the door already. I'm not a fan of pre-orders (burnt twice). But I will buy your game IF you release it before January 2013...after that I'm giving up hope of a proper remake.
