  1. No, you could maybe set a grenade weapon up to represent it that would be fired by the grenade button on the UI but they would still be two separate weapons.

If the new UI does support multiple ammo types for weapons you may be able to make a second ammo type for your rifle that had an area damaging explosion.

You would need to reload to that ammo in order to fire it then reload back to normal ammo afterwards.

It would sort of be what you were looking for.

    That has downsides though.

Range, reload cost, AP per shot, accuracy, rounds per clip, and suppression amount are all set by the weapon not the ammunition currently loaded.

That would mean your grenade round would have to share all of those features (including access to burst fire I think) with the standard rounds.

Also the grenade type shot would not arc like a thrown grenade, it would be direct fire like any other normal bullet.

How the rounds fired act (rocket, grenade, normal bullet) is also set by the weapon, not the ammunition.

In the case of rocket launchers, round per Clip/Mag is set by the ammunition itself, right? Shame accuracy/range isn't subject to the ammunition.

  2. But mobile gaming is primarily for casual gamers. Someone into gaming isn't going to rely just on squinting at hand-helds/mobile phones for games and the limited gaming experience they provide.

Ouya and who knows what else may change that. Atm, there's already 'game controller' attachments for smartphones and tablets. Compare mobile phone gaming from 10ish years ago and you"ll see a big difference. This applies to all gaming, but consoles are essentially closed-environment PCs with a 'lifespan' of 5-6 years. I think this is why in the last generation, Microsoft was trying to reach different markets for their X360, and we have things like motion-control existing on all platforms.

  3. Also I take what any gun club shooting fanatics rhetoric's come back with a pinch of salt as I'm sure they have spent many years *just* firing their weapon of choice and aren't in the club because they also need to have tactical awareness, fitness, the ability to take orders, courage and every other rounded skills a soldier needs...

I make sure to take anything someone who uses "gun club shooting fanatic" and the implication that anyone in a 'gun club' (as if every country requires that, or as if the SUSAT is the benchmark all sights are measured against) isn't fit for the military. Or when they make other, uncited sweeping generalizations. ;)

  4. Can multiple tabs be created? What about sub-tabs?

I mean the weapon category tabs to clarify, like how we have "Ballistic, Laser, Plasma" etc.

Manufacturing system? I've only seen things that are made as a single 'part' in the workshop, like aircraft.

  5. I do believe that Kickstarter rewards are part of a contract that the developer must sign with the guys who run the site.

Especially since Kickstarter earnings are also taxed.

Not really. Game devs are under no obligation to 'refund' people, which is why you have to be smart if you ever want to fund a kickstarter project, since they can literally just run away with the money.

  6. The most pointless topic i've seen so far.

Unless the two sides start at relativly even technologicaol footing one side is fucked.(Which defeats the point of the game)

NONE of you can provide a SINGLE argument from a realism standpoint of humanity as it is now possibly holding a candle to a civilization capable of effective interstellar flight. Not HWP, not trash man. If the alien force is hostile - we lose.

How about realising that it is just a game.

This. A lot of people here are talking out of ignorance.

  7. I have to say that while JA2 style of customization is awesome (especially 1.13) I don't think such game as xenonauts really need that. You see, the main reason why customization play such a big role there is because you basically fight in guerilla warfare, so you use what you can scavenge. In xenonauts everything is done in a facility, so there is no need for customization on field. That means I won't say no to different variants of weapons, but they can work just fine using current game engine. You can perfectly do CQB/Marksman variants of guns just modyfying their stats accordingly and altering images.

Just as you are entitled to your opinion, so am I. ;)

I'm just looking for ways to work with the current game since I doubt Chris is suddenly going to program functions he won't use for the game.

  8. Well, 154k + however much he's gotten since then is a lot of money. I suspect all or most of the kickstarter money is going to the game, outside of expenses, though. It's dumb to comment on the progress since it's not like we know Chris's business plan or his [ever-changing] circumstances. Outside of the fact he's definitely working on it, at least. Plus, Goldhawk has a very small team to work on this game, doesn't it?

  9. Seeing as how I doubt Chris will add such a thing, maybe we could do it? :P There's a few questions that need to be addressed, though:

    1. Other weapons should be able to use different ammo-types, right? Not just rocket launchers?

    2. Can more inventory slots actually be added into the game? That's the most vital thing to get a sort of attachment/accessory system working.

-2A. Can items be 'connected' to the weapon? IE: If you switch out the scoped ballistic rifle, the scope also moves out with it? I know at least primary weapons take up both hands, don't know if that's note-worthy at all.

-2B. Other than size, are there ways to make it so you can only attach certain items in an inventory slot?

    3. Is it possible to make items that effect the stats of the weapon or soldier?

If all of this is possible, then we really should be able to add JA2-style weapon customization, allowing you to attach scopes, weapon grips etc.

  10. Actually, though, elite units don't tend to start their ranks at E-1.

SEALs, for have instance, start at E-4 SO, which is equivalent to Corporal in Army and Marines.

It's difficult to assess how "elite" Xenos are.

For gameplay purposes you have to start low, with nothing, and work your way up.

Realistically an organization as sensitive as Xenonauts would initially get assigned small teams from highly trusted covert operation organizations such as SAD, FOG, GRU, Zenith. Some of these units are all-officer as it is, given the situation, it's safe to assume that the Xenos team would also be.

The problem is, these guys aren't getting any better in physical terms. It's not even Delta Force, it's units that recruit from it. They will gain more skill in dealing with aliens specifically, but they aren't going to learn to run faster or haul more gear, and they don't need to learn not to shoot their buddies whenever someone near gets a scratch.

So the game would get much less interesting in terms of team development.

It's a bit late to change things, but not necessarily.

In say, the Dark Heresy RPG, you have Characteristics (Stats), Skills and Talents.

Talents/Skills could be something I can see them gaining in terms of fighting aliens.

  11. Sorry dude but exception is the rule, while we may say that in general women are out numbered by men in the worlds armed forces can you state that every squad in every army has this rule?

While you say that men are generally stronger than women and that generally speaking this may be correct but can you say that a group of random people wouldn't have more stronger women than men?

Like I say, sorry dude but the answer to both is no

This is a big planet with billions of human inhabitants the chances of three women in one squad being stronger may be slim but to say its unrealistic is very short sighted indeed, you have been watching too much telly or you havent been out in the real world long enough to see that everything like this is not just possible but mostley exists.

Pigs have four legs: fact - not true, I have seen with my own eyes a pig with not four, not eight but twelve legs, it didn't last long but it was a single pig with twelve legs it's unrealistic but true. (The pig was here in the uk, the farmer was aquainted with my farther but thats all the information I have, I was a little boy at the time approximately 35 years ago.)

Huh? The saying is that exception is not the rule.

  12. Squad organization the armadillo style:

First get rid of any tanks or vehicles

Second hire as many men as possible

Third put about 8-12 men on the whirlybird

Fourth Replace all shotguns with M16's and anybody who can carry big guns gets a big gun (LMG or Sniper)

Fifth go kill aliens and gain skills, vehicles dont gain skill so I dont use em

    Nobody gets left behind...

One other issue I have with LMGs is that all of your starting soldiers usually won't be able to have Jackal Armor + the LMG.

  13. Well, see, there's a few things.

    1. There's only so much Chris would be willing to or can do to paint the setting. Chris does not want to go out of his way to make NPC aircraft and a bunch of scout craft that are only meant to get shot down by them, for example.

    2. The fact is that 3 F17s, regardless of whatever new technology will not be on the same level as the entire airforce of the USSR or USA. You can't really reconcile "Xenonauts are the only ones able to take on the aliens" with "An extremely small, international organization during the Cold War that uses human-technology who is the only hope for mankind since only they can take them on". It just isn't believable, so all you can do is suspend your disbelief.

Unless, you scale back the Xenonauts from being "humanitys' only hope" to a "global organization created by the Warsaw Pact & NATO/UN meant to: A. capture and reverse-engineer alien technology B. Come up with a means to counter-attack the alien fleet."

  14. I didn't mod in the names, but all the weapons in the game are IRL weapons. Such as the Ballistic Rifle clearly being an M16A1. :P I just find it faster and nicer sounding to type those names than 'Ballistic Rifle'.

Missile HWP is..? Do you find yourself moving too slow with rockets or do you just not bother reserving reaction shots for them?

    The PSG1, there's: C:\Program Files (x86)\Desura\Common\xenonauts\assets\weapons\ballistic\alternative

All of those are extra images that I think are meant for modders or people who want to re-skin their weapons. The PSG-1 is one of them. All I did was replace the precision rifle image with it and renamed the image to 'precisionrifle'. Bam. Instant PSG-1!

Regarding Shotguns..I doubt the lesser amount of TU used outweighs the fact you have to get closer, and therefore possibly risk reaction-fire.

  15. Well, let me put it this way. For instance, I don't think there is a significant difference between any iProduct that is not a music player, the contents of an outhouse in Ebola River Valley, any motor vehicle made in the People's Republic of China and any sequence of sounds recorded by J.Bbr.

But obviously an AAPL fan, a microbiologist, a communist and a 14 year old girl would each disagree with me.

Who is right on this subject?

Sure, to a pure FPS gamer all of these are equally boring, and even so, to anyone dedicated to any of these particular genres, there just isn't any crossover, since they have almost nothing to do with one another.

    Appeal to Ridicule, eh?

@Trashman: It's on my list of games to play.
