  1. Hi,

would it be possible to add button to the Xenonauts opening screen which will download and extract community map pack(s)?

This possibility (map pack) is hidden to many people and for example one review I have read said "few repetitive maps" and lowered final score because of that.

If this community map pack would be validated & frozen (so next maps will go to second map pack) then it should be safe to use this approach.

    Pretty please :)

  2. Kreny - yes, we were getting that in the office when we tried it on a virtual machine too. Damn. We were hoping it was just us.

I'll speak to Steam and see what's happening.

I maybe know the reason ... it seems Steam is not downloading one big package but each single file one by one. And right now, my Xenonauts folder under .steam/steam/SteamApps/downloading/223830/opt has 44 431 files.

So it seems it is openning connection for each file, then downloads it and then closes it.

  3. Not sure if you have influence on this, but download speed is a bit slow (it tells me mora than one Year to finish download :) )

edit : left it downloading for whole night and still not there, average download is few kB/s. This is first time I've experienced this on Steam. Tried to download other game and it was downloading with full speed, weird

  4. So Xenonauts are on the Steam as final release, congrats! But how it looks with Steam Linux version? :)

There is still just Windows client, seems.

For those who do not understand why I want Steam version: in a World where mankind invented repositories (and that is really cool, Windows users) I would like to use them as much as possible. And Steam is some kind of " game repository"...

So Chris, make it running pleeeeeeeeeeeeease

  5. It works flawlessly on Linux as well, I think the issue here was that Steam shows Xenonauts as Linux-compatible, but on download it won't work. This is also true of the stand-alone version, it doesn't have wine bundled so the user has to install it himself and the Xenonauts starter script won't use a dedicated wineprefix (as far as I remember), so it's just easier to use the Windows version.

yep and this is what I would like to clear out - if it should not work on Linux than ok, it's pitty but do not make it appear in Linux Steam library. Otherwise make it running :)

But Chris said it's their goal... unfortunatly on final release so we have still plenty of time left.

It is not about no possibility to play Xenonauts on Linux... its about using Steam benefits (one "game repository", automated updates, cloud for saves etc.)

  6. Hey,

will Xenonauts support Linux on Steam? Game is available in my library but when I try to install it, it's "installed" instantly and then do not works which is a symptom of "Windows-only game incorrectly marked as supporting Linux by it's developers"

I know Xeno works under wine but it's a pitty when there is native Steam client for Linux and Xenonauts do not work there...

Or I am missing something and it works for others? :)

  7. truth is that game is a bit unclear for newcomers. I am UFO veteran but it took me few game weeks to realize I have to use stun grenades which I invented month ago for capturing aliena. Game just didn't noticed me there is new weapon available.

but I am sure these issues will be sorted out in beta

anyway one hint from me: until you are experienced in air combat, don't be afraid to load game. Planes are just too expensive so replacing them all the time costs you a game.

second hint : patroling may reveal close UFO or even base. So if fundings drops for one nation, try to patrol that space a bit, maybe there is alien base

  8. You can upload it to a file sharing site like dropbox, then paste the link to the forum. Thank you.

as I wrote in my first post, I am not going to do so because it is so stupid situation. You are seeking for bugs in game pre-release stages but you do not allow people to attach savegames with this bugs.

If its not possible to grant access then hopefully you will fix it somehow else

  9. original dropship (chinhook or how is it written) and no mods of course

could it be an issue that because UFO was already so damaged then my second wave had damaged it over 100% and because I doubt landing ships can be destroyed as Alien fighters can be then it crashed when it tried to calculate crash casualties?
