  1. So that the aliens can wreck your shit whenever you move? No thanks.

If there are five aliens all positioned so they can shoot my guy... why not?

The problem now is more that they try to shoot you (and succeed!) from ridiculous distances. I believe that is a separate problem.

I don't know if reaction fire is sensitive to distance either, but that could also be a thing to consider (increased distance = less chance to reaction fire).

  2. I also noticed that only one reaction per "event" seem to trigger, regardless of number of combatants.

I have had 5 guys surround the entrance to a UFO and an alien runs out. I have never had more than *one* of my guys reaction fire at the same time. I would expect that he was turned to a pulp when everyone opened fire at the same time :)

  3. I have had two cases of the geoscape freezeing up, and I had to kill Xenonauts using the Windows task manager.

By freezing I mean the time stops running, no UI element is clickable.

It is unfortunately not reproducable since loading the previous save and letting the time run has worked (no crash) in both cases.

I *think* it might be connected with UFO's being spawned or detected as I noted the date when the freeze occured and on the next load a UFO was detected at that date.

  4. Oh man, you must be using ballistics still. Androns are...fun...without lasers. With lasers they're about the same as Sebbies, just with more plasma cannons. Then you meet the higher ranks and oh god can they suck up the weaponsfire.

I had multiple terror missions with androns+harridans that had me reloading almost every turn. Not very fun as they were a bit too superior for me. But I only had ballistics.

Which leads me to my question:

In my longest game so far I managed to get to plasma weapons way before laser weapons were available. This seems strange.

What is the path to get laser weapons? I suppose I missed something, but I had multiple occasions where I had nothing to research.

  5. In current build (V18 hotfix 1) a building has the roof "removed" when a soldier enters it. This is nice.

But, I think the roof should disappear also when the mouse hovers over it. Currently, it is very annoying to try to go back into a building you have been in before since you have to step inside it first.

The hangars on the desert/military base maps are a good example.

  6. During the hidden movement phase, the window is moved to a place in the map (where I assume there are aliens) and then freezes. I can move the mouse, and the cursor is shown, but the UI does not respond and it hangs forever.

    Save file:

Edit: Depending on how I move my troop, the zoom-to-alien bit doesn't happen. Then the game freezes during hidden movement instead.

It sounds like the cursor is still active "behind" the hidden movement screen.

Edit2: This was with the original non-hotfix version 18 standalone.

  7. I think it is important to keep it there, since it actually, as already noted in this thread, amplifies the feeling of no control.

My pulse usually rises a bit when the hidden movement screen disappears since I don't know whether it was just a civilian that moved, or if a platoon of mutons are going to fuck up my entire squad. :)

I don't think there is any reason to add an option to disable it.

  8. Err... first that I have ever heard of it. I'd have to say no.

Also we do NOT have polar bears walking the streets of our capital... or any other city.

Another swede here. He is obviously lying, or danish. :P

I am looking at polar bears right now, while going up the elevator listening to In Flames. ;)

  9. I guess gallons of milk only exist in America. No that's not meant to be mean, I don't know if they sell milk in europe in liters.

In Sweden we obviously get milk in cartons that are measured in mjölkenmätenborken which is an old measurement unit that goes back to the viking ages. For everything else we use liters.

  10. (Everyone knows what a gallon looks like, but what the hell is 3.785 L?)

It's about 2 packs of ice cream packs of 2 liters each. Easy!

I second the person who said he had no idea what a "gallon" is. It could be the size of an elephant or a hedgehog for all I care. :)

For the game, I don't really care that much, although I would prefer metric since that what I am used to.

For reality, please just use the metric system and perhaps we can avoid this kind of mixup in the future: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mars_Climate_Orbiter#Cause_of_failure
