  1. Problem with 8 maps for each is that it makes it possible that you have seen all map variants before reaching corvette meaning that when you reach corvette you are like "Oh, its same map but ship is different" making the maps for new ships feeling less new and unique.

  2. I hated aliens being able to use psionics without anyone seeing you in original xcom and I dislike it here too xP Cause its annoying to hear the psionic sound effect every turn or two plus its annoying when you have only one soldiers left who is trying to run to the transport

  3. Just out of curiosity, since I haven't been keeping up with news until recently, how far we are into polishing after release bugs?

Also, speaking of mods, is there going to be steam workshop stuff in future? Just checking, glad to see the game being finished finally(and that there are few awesome mod projects on the modding section)

  4. http://www.pcgamer.com/2013/01/08/interview-xcom-jake-solomon-pc-gamer/

And PC gamer article tells us that they aren't planning to do Slingshot type dlc again(so either they canceled plans for second dlc like that since secret achievements implied there would be one or they plan to retool it) and Solomon agrees that it wasn't really great dlc. At least thats impression I got from skimming, I'm kind of busy right now.

Anyhoo, now I'm again back to lurking :P Bye!

  5. Well that's what they get for naming it XCOM :D They knew what they were doing. They fooled me and that's not easy to do (when I'm sober). :D

To be fair, you got fooled because you didn't check stuff. I mean demo is sucky but it still should give enough details that basic gameplay is different plus term "Reimagining" differs from remake in that "Reimagined game" doesn't need to be in any way similar to original besides basic concept really.

@Gribbstar: I would like to point out that Impossible wasn't balanced to be beatable by devs so while it can be beat it wasn't made to be beatable :P Though some people on 2K are already complaining about it being too easy for them so apparently its beatable with skill too.*shrugs* Thats why its impossible to create truly difficult difficulty, if you can beat it, too easy, if you can't beat it, too hard.

  6. I personally find it interesting that DLC apparently provides you early access to blaster launchers, I guess thats how they decided to fix issue where people whine about it not being in the game because they never did battleship mission as at the point in the game where you can beat battleships you can prevent them from appearing at all :P

@Carpetsmoker: Aren't those points mostly about it being different from original game?...

  7. Having just finished XCOM myself today, this was the impression I was left with:

I became a science-fiction writer because of X-Com: UFO Defense. Had it been this new XCOM on my 386 back then (graphics aside), I don't know that I'd have ever sprinted down this path. XCOM's not a terrible game by any stretch. It's fun, I played for hours, and I had a great time doing so. But for whatever reason, for better or worse, the immersion just wasn't there for me. I'm sure I'll play again at some point, and I'm sure I'll be entertained. But right now, on the heels of just finishing it, I really don't feel drawn to fire up a second campaign. One of the first things I thought as I leaned back in my chair and looked at the endgame screen was, "I'm so glad I get to work with Xenonauts."

You guys are doing something awesome. I'm pumped up to be a part of it. This novella's going to be the best it can be.

Yeah, since old game is more simplistic in presentation, you fill gaps with your imagination that allows for better immersion. New game has cutscenes, people talking to you, soldiers talking and some sort of explanation for aliens so it doesn't make you fill personalities for soldiers or imagine scientists yourself.

  8. Yeaaah, if you double click hot keys or hotkey plus space you do it so fast that it doesn't have time to pop up, but I doubt its that.

Game sometimes bugs on me and skips whole are you suer thing completely when I click icon, it happens rarely and nevers been problem since I have always picked what I wanted to do but it has happened to me.

Anyway, I wouldn't say that old game is "bad as strategy game", but I do agree that "more options" =/= "better strategy/depth" especially when one of those options is "Blow up the whole map even areas you can't see to bypass strategy altogether". I consider using limited resources to achieve the goal more strategic than sand box.
