  1. But nobody has charged you. This game is free to buy or don't buy. You've chosen not to.

Nobody has forced you to work. You are free to collaborate and cooperate. You've chosen not to.

So...what are you still doing here?

You right thats why I havent purchased the game!..lol

Also when you Pre-order your CC is not charged until the game releases. Is that the case here?

I'm here because its a forum for posting! I live in a free country I dont know about you!

Nor should there be, until the work is (about) done. Firaxis didn't announce their release date for years and they were much bigger, with more resources. If they had, you would have been on their forums after month 6 going ballistic because they hadn't released it yet

It's unrealistic to expect Goldhawk to name a date, when they rely on a variety of sources, just so that you can use it as a stick to beat them with.

Ohh but its not unrealistic to announced a beta for June 2012. To get them peeps that were going to purchase the Firaxis XCOM remake. Marketing 101!

Also a release date for a game you want to charge for its kind of a big deal!

Me too, but playing the alpha takes the edge off.

How does a buggy game that crashes and has so many issues excatly take the edge off?

Proof can be found on this forum just a couple of threads away!

If it's "ending" then please see the links I posted earlier. You can see the push towards the final phases before Beta there. if your views come from comments that have been posted bout possible release dates previously, then I do understand. Since no one else has really mentioned those on the forums, I think people have been pretty pleased with the way things have been going (typed using broad strokes)

So because no one mentions it, Im not allowed to either?

I'm sure that the developers of free games don't want to spend their entire lifetimes doing it either. A rushed free game is no better than a rushed AAA release. If it isn't functional, then it's pants, and people simply won't go near them again. By taking the necessary time, Goldhawk will be looking to make it as practicably functional as they can. How do I know this? Because of the feedback on every alpha release, and the contact they have with their fan base.

No game is perfect even at Vanilla level!

    There will be bugs!

Folks who play the alpha don't have to provide feedback on it. But of course it helps everyone if they do. Since a lot of people here have very fond X-Com memories, it's something that I know I'm happy to do when I get the chance. I see it as getting to look behind the curtains at the development and getting to play around in the game as it develops. Not to mention that forum ideas have been taken on board and have helped to shape the game. That wouldn't happen, as well as it does, without the testing. We're not being forced to test the >Tzzz< Ow! quit it Chris! >Tzzz< Ow! (well, I can report that stun batons are progressing nice..>Tzzzz< Ow!

LOL.. well I do remember a time when companies had to pay for Alpha tester. Now it seems like they found their

minions to do the work for free and pay the company. There are people that make money for testing games!

Not when communities like these are willing to give their labor for the love of the game.

Why not get paid thats all I'm saying or atleast not taking jobs away from those tester who

have the skill required to give back professional feed back!

If the Dev team had some true in house testers we will be much

closer to a release and probably have a set date. Imagine that!

I covered the first part of that above/ previous post I think. For the second part, again you're absolutely right to spend your pennies as you see fit. I know people that don't buy games until they have been patched enough to make them worth the effort after many disappointments, never mind getting them on release.

Although I will agree that alot of final releases are not done.

Multiply those pennies and we are talking about serious money.

WarZ perfect example - Sergey has made well over 10 Million to date.

How much has Chris made to date?

Again, covered above I hope. Also mentioned the general reaction to such things round these parts.

Yes I forget I have to go with what everyone else is doing.. Sorry!

I guess and you're not at all wrong to want to be sure that your cash is spent wisely. Just on the point right above this one, for the return I've had, mine has been. Is there any indication at all that you can find that Xenonauts won't be finished? Not form the progress in the development section there isn't. That's a far more accurate measure than hinging everything on a couple of rather hopeful dates.

You sound pretty sure of your self. Are you a Dev?

Cause if your not then its just your opinion not a fact and neither

can a Dev make that promise. We will see when its done sometime

in the near/far etc future. Hopefully!

I'm hopeful that you are not disappointed when the game is released. Goldhawk release the game. Good Beta testing will hopefully make it as robust as possible (all those poor volunteer slaves of Alpha Testing get a promotion to Beta Minion and an additional tea break, I'm told). Then you get your game (retailing for probably less than $100, but hey inflation these days...), and you can make a decision on whether it's the game you were waiting for. Win-win.

Again, There are people that make their living testing in house!

Instead of the backwards ways it seems to work today.

Test my game and pay me for it..LOL (I know its for the love of the game )

I was a little confused by the "paying customers" part. Going by all of the above, I was under the impression that they would have to prise cash for an Alpha from your cold dead paw. Or are you taking a stand for the outraged paying customers who (so far) haven't made their views felt on the forums? .

If you read it I mentioned how pissed I would be if I HAD PURCHASED the alpha and had to hear remarks like those

about why I was promised something and was not delivered. Im glad very glad I have not purchased this alpha!

I know its hard for Fandboys to look at this for what it is.

    A money making machine!

So when you want to make money there should be tough questions about the product you are

    want to sell the public!

  2. So basically there is no date for release!

I want to play this (full) game really bad. What I dislike about the process

is the lack of any true endiding. I'm different then you guys and you guys want to help the dev team which is great.

If this was a free game sure take as long as you need but

the main reason I dont purchase Alpha titles It's because Its not a finished product. It seems

like all these indie game companies want to charge money and then you become

testers. It's also fair to say the Dev team has also been deceiving about released dates. I dont like that I will

speak against it. If it takes this Dev team 10 years to finish then thats when they can get

my money. I would also be really mad if I was told a Beta was going to released around the

same time as XCOM remake and I purchased the game only to still be in alpha 6+ months

later. Im unapologetic on my post and most people can't handle that "too bad".

Its not about the money either the Dev team can charge me $100.00 for their finished

product and I would pay that much. Just dont charge me for something thats not complete

or has any finish line. Let's face it this dev team was to shut down their site and game progress

tomorrow and there is nothing anyone can do about it. Kickstarter is another good way of taking

the money and run - There are tons of horror stories about it.

PS - I havent insulted anyone in this post so please give me the same respect I'm giving you guys.

djlogue its not naive its Native :P

I would be flipping my shit If I purchased the alpha and had answers like the ones

djlogue was giving me right now. Paying customer having to deal with remarks like that.

    Makes me proud of waiting!

  3. Why would I purchase a game that's not complete?

I can see the youtube vidoes of the game I dont need to play it to see..lol

typo on my last post V17.5

It looks like V17.52 fixed the clipping , but there are still too many bugs/game crashes (reported on this forum)

to make my gaming experience anything worth paying yet. If I waited this long whats

    another 12 months right?

When is Beta going to be released?

When is the full game going to be released?

  4. Hey NastyNative! Long time.

I'd perhaps pop back quite a bit sooner than a year. Take a look at the Development Updates and Announcements and Progress

Ah, the Underwater Missions thread. I'm sure I enjoyed getting into that thread...only to have it lost beneath the torrents of animosity between Nasty Native and Gorlom :)

    Hey thothkins

Glad to see your still around. I only say a year because Beta should have been released back in June of 2012 if I recall.

I remember chris posting that a beta would be released around the same time as the XCOM remake by Firaxis.

If its taking this long for beta I think I should be back in more than a year.

I was watching Youtube vidoes of lets play Xenonauts (alpha)v1.75 and its still very incomplete.

  5. Does any one recall an X-com remake 1:1 that was just recently cancelled!

I saw the website a little while back and now I can freaking the remember the name?

unless they took ddown the site.

They were re-skinning EU with up to date graphics!

  6. Jean-Luc...LMFAO

I didnt expect them to start shooting at each other.

Must admit pretty good aim considering their laser blasters are on their chest.

    Best video ever!

Thats one battle where you want to be killed instantly.

Instead of floating into the infinite blackness until you

either starve to death or bleed to death.

  7. Watching some of the old X-com videos, freaking MUTONS have like 100000% reaction points.

Jesus its so funny! you step out and automatically get shot from these bastards!

    Winterwolves -

There are no stupid post, just stupid people who post them.

But there are sarcastic answers from sarcastic pricks answering the post.

Unfortunately I'm only 1 sarcastic prick!

  8. I never played the After Math games! they look really bad!

I do have UFO extraterrestrials but its not the same at all.

I cant play the originals anymore.

2K/Firaxis better freaking release a remake HD of the original.

I dont think I will be purchasing their new game.

This game is the only one in my cross hairs, but I dont want to play

an alpha I want to play a complete game so I will be patient!

  9. Not legally you couldn't, unless you had the official license (like Firaxis do).

    This is what I feared!

The more I read about their X-Com remake the less I like their game.

How are you just going to take AP points away.

I see that as the core concept for this game.

Also the Game will follow a semi-linear path which Im not thrilled about either!

The Open X-com looks promising but it still has the same face.

The 1:1 remake I speak of would keep the core concept and mechanics

of the game intact just chaging the graphics thats all so my eyes

dont hurt when I look at it?

Just make it look pretty like Xenonauts does but keep the same art style.

Ok Off to watch Champions league!

Bayern vs Madrid and tomorrow Barcelona vs Chelsea

2 epic games - Then on Saturday Barcelona vs Madrid for La Liga!

    Epic week for futbol

  10. Hi, I just read this whole post now...Wow guys..really?

I don't want to pour petrol on this fire, although that would be really cool looking, rather I want to pour water on it, so long as it isn't an oil fire...

It would be great if you could stay intopic atleast.

Since you know what OCD is you can tell the thread is named

    "Underwater Missions"

The issue has been solved (ignore list - they work wonders)

Ps: you just did the samething your asking us not to do!;)

    LMFAO

  11. Althought I see Xenonauts as having massive amount of potential and

lots of sites rave about how this would be the closest X-COM remake

ever. I still see some subtle changes in the game play and

massive changes on the face of the game.

Would it be possible with the current engine to basically make a 1:1

remake in HD or atleast with newer graphics?

No one has ever done this and everyone that has remade it in the past

added a little something that they thought would improve the game

and has always failed to give me that feeling of Nostalgia!

I see the original (EU or TFTD) as the perfect game and just taking the

original game and making it HD would be EPIC. Never down before!

An HD remake combining both TFTD and EU would be even better but

I would be happy with just an 1:1 of either game in HD!

It's what I have been searching for since the originals just became too

    low res for my eyes.

  12. I found a Multiplayer mode video Nostalgia-ABOMB

Plus I came here in peace looking to make some friends and have some fun posting.

Instead I get a really annoying person trolling my post pushing to prove his point

which I could really care less about. I'll admit I went a little over board, but I'm from

    jersey thats how we roll!

Underwater Missions would add so much to this game. I mean the earth is 70% water right?

I for one miss killing lobsterman with harpoons!

  13. Gauddlike must be a mind reader he got my point on his 1st post.(3rd post)

When I play TFTD or EU I like to save alot.

Which means I always end up with tons of materials, because lets face it

this is game is really fun once you have more than a couple of bases.

I even go as far as reloading the game if my radar picks up a small ship and

try it again untill I get my self a Fighter or a Cruiser.

I mostly only use small ships to train my newbie soldiers.

I love collecting all the light years more advanced technology and use

it to fund my fast growth. So I cant see how too many resources would

make the game too hectic. With more bases you would be more incontrol

of the game but we dont want you punching you self in the jewels.

  14. All I got from this post "Its a weak idea"

Again I must point out your view

is not the only view of this game

as hard as that is to accept!

Why are still posting in this thread?

You not are adding anything to this discussion!

We know you don’t agree with it by now!

You basically repeat the same bullshit over and over again.

Please if you don’t like the idea it would be great if you would

    stop posting here.

Or start your own thread "Why Underwater missions are a bad idea"

Your one of those people that everybody hates, because you

give peeps headaches with your know it all attitude!

I feel sorry for you bro!

The point you just got was made a while back!

Everyone keeps saying it’s going to take a lot more man

    power. That goes without saying!

Also suggestions are just that Im not holding a knife to Chris'

neck saying he must add it. Its simply a suggestion thats it.

This message is hidden because Gorlom is on your ignore list.!

    SWEET!

My Xenanouts forum experience has just been increased 100000000000 fold!:P

  15. Nastynative, it's not a figure of speech, at least not outside of America, it's missusing the word plain and simple. Other people missunsing the term is not an excuse for you doing so if you know better. If you don't simply take the new knowledge to heart and stop defending the degradation of the english language.

Underwater missions has been suggested before you came along. It has been discussed and made clear by Chris that he won't be including it.

I'm saddened that you still can't elaborate as to why underwater missions are neccessary over other similar but less time consuming tilesets/missiontypes. From your last post it seems it has to do more with your memory of TFTD and how it compared (with mods) to EU then something tangible that you can explain.

I think your done posting on this thread. Unless you have something to add about underwater missions.

Since you dont agree that it would be fun I see no point you posting your bullshit in this thread.

There are tons of other threads you can go attack on this forum.

I did a search on Underwater Missions and I didnt see a post dedicated

to underwater missions. There might have been a mention of it here

and there, but no dedicated underwater post. Unless the seach bar is not working!

Another thing that some of you guys are not understanding is the fact

that adding such missions would make this game so much bigger.

More weapons a bigger tech tree more vehicles etc.

I would be willing to pay way more then 20 bucks for a game like that!

Making a sequel about TFTD would be a horrible idea.

Instead of making one complete game like the (mod) I used to play.

Now we would have 1 half of the game and then a sequel with the

other half. Why not combine them?

  16. What made this game fun was the turned based aspect of the game.

Take that away and you have something totally different.

I'm sure it could be pulled off, but the AP aspect is so much

fun cause you have these AP that you basically

have to horde around and they are unforgiving. Spend to

many and end up in your enemies cross hair!

  17. I think you post it from parallel universe. In our realm tftd has only underwater crash sites and no any interception above ground.

Yes you are completely correct ZZZ.

I pulled out my original X-Com TFTD manual and you can’t even engage alien ship over land.

The reason I was so sure you could do this is simply because in or around early 2000’s there was

a bunch of Mods that were released. One of those mods that I played allowed me

To destroy ships over land and send in my squads (it combined both games into one).

Also there was a LAN party mod and I think we used a program called Hamachi to connect.

You could pick X-com or Aliens choose your battlefield (underwater or ground) Underwater

was always way more fun. My buddy and myself would play that for hours, fun times.

Although I remember the Guided Mini Nuke was so cheap in that game mode.

That's all I took away from that and thought it was a fucking amazing idea. I'd love to play as a Rainbow Six type CT team tasked with 'neutralizing' terrorist events. From the 60s onwards with kidnappings and airliner hijacks through to fictional and staged events.

There is a game like that it’s called Shadow Watch released in 2000 - http://www.gamespot.com/shadow-watch/ - Although not nearly as in depth as X-Com or as cool. Check it out, it was pretty fun. I don’t remember if they had any special mission. The game was made by

Red Storm a subsidiary of Ubisoft which makes the Rainbow 6 games.

Sorry NastyNative, but while I got the gist of "light years more evolved than us", it drives me crazy to see light years used in that fashion (see Gorlom's response). Admittedly, misuse of light years isn't uncommon...

It was simply a figure of speech not meant to be taken literally. I think you 2 guys have an issue with

that "Its called OC" I believe they sell pills for that. It’s not that serious..lol

I can’t imagine living my life and taking everything literally! I, on the other hand don’t let bullshit like that bother

me! Not to lash out at Sunshard or Gorlom, it’s just the way I see it!

Also I can’t believe no one has suggested underwater missions before I came along.

All my buddies that are looking forward to this game are also looking

forward to the addition of underwater missions to be added. We had so much fun with TFTD and its something

You peeps are going to have to live with I see TFTD as a more complete game.

Also the fact that I played UFO EU on both PC and PSone it might have played out

that game in my head. TFTD was just a fresh new look and I had fun killing

    Lobsterman. Harpoon that bitch!

  18. Ok, so it's a homage. What is the point of that homage? Where is the discussion going? I'm still not following what you wanted to say with explaining how close it was we didnt get x-com.

And why are you derailing your own thread about the homage to talk about underwater missions when you already decided to make a thread in the suggestions forum?

And you still haven't explained HOW adding underwater missions would give this game an edge. It's just another tileset, with the drawback that it needs it's own set of transportation, armor, equipment, aliens and UFO/UMO (unidentified marine object)

Frankly just slapping on underwater missions onto the rest of the game would suck. At this point its too late to properly intergrate into the concept and gameplay as I see it. I hope to see in your suggestions thread that you can motivate it better then "I think it would be cool".

Here is your 1st replay to my homage!

This whole post was a plug for underwater misssions? And to have the underwater misssions be a completly seperate game from the missions above the surface? Or did you mean something else by "keeping it like the original"?

The programming would be ALOT of work. Too much really to get the game out within the timeframe Chris wants to release it. But the balanceing of the game would be absolutely horrendous.

    Who derailed it?

I'll do ahead and post about underwater missions in the suggestion thread.

Keep this thread about my post.

    Thanks!
