  1. I also like the option to either press "OK" and stay on the same speed or "5sec OK" slow it down to 5sec like in X-COM. Sucks that on X-COM you didn't have that option when certain projects finished, so if you were at 1day speed, and research finished, you would have to be quick to press 5 sec speed after pressing OK.

  2. That's silly, I never said that, but do it in whatever order you want, I'm not gonna come up with the name or abbreviation. Just explaining why some users here might not like Xenonauts. They might want an X-COM like name. I don't mind the name, just need to start earning so I can be playing alpha soon, I'm having dreams about it already, lmao.

  3. The name could be The Alien Hunters From Hell, as long as all the UN leaders agree to it. I'm more curious to know if Xenonauts is a top secret organization, or a known organization that you can't just join. I wanna know details of how your soldiers are recruited and what tests are done to make sure they're 100% human, etc, etc. I wanna know everything as the commander of Xenonauts.

Anyways, I think some of you want an even more unique name to the organization, like X-COM. X-COM stands for Extraterrestrial Combat Unit and since we're a military organization, we abbreviate it as X-COM. The Military loves his abbreviations and acronyms. Maybe add more to Xenonauts so that we're able to abbreviate it.

  4. So these soldiers come with experience and are the best of the best from the nations supporting the Xenonauts Organization? I certainly hope not.

If that's the case, I do hope they'll still shoot for sh*t when going against alien terror. I rather have rookie seeds to plant them myself and watch them grow to become commando trees.

If you go with giving our soldiers past experience, do it to the few that would have good stats. Like in X-COM I always separated the good reaction and firing accuracy stat soldiers from the rest of the crew. You can give those bad boys the green beret status.

  5. Tooltips do currently have a toggle.

I am not sure why but a lot of people seem to be assuming that tooltips are some kind of guide to the game or that they give you instructions on how you should play.

They are a set of information pop ups, that let you know what a certain button does for example.

If you put your mouse over a button with an arrow on it the tooltip might say "Camera level up".

That is hardly spoon feeding or guiding you down a set path.

You get more of that from loading screen tips, on games that have those.

They are useful, especially for people who have never played x-com and won't have an idea what kind of abilities will be available.

They are not Big Brother watching over you and making sure you play the game how someone else thinks you should.

    You're right ;)

  6. Well OP, Xenonauts is for the fans who loved the GOTY every years X-COM. You should try playing it again. Check out the UFOpaedia site for X-COM.

X-COM is amazing. The feeling you get getting owned in a Terror Mission and then the feeling you get after destroying an Alien Base with casualties is the best! Spending 30 minutes focused trying to clear out the alien base, trying not to put my soldiers in bad spots or else they get killed, and finally after so many turns, it's finally over... So rewarding xD I get up and do my victory dance to the bathroom.

Even after getting an understanding of every option in the game, you needed to stay on your toes because you get no help from the game at all. You were totally in-charge with no in-game tool-tips telling you the recommended path to go and whatnot. I agree, I don't wanna be spoon fed. I want everything X-COM gave me translated into Xenonauts >)

Tool-tips should obviously have an on and off switch if GoldHawk decides to add them. We'll all be happy this way.

  7. I want a rated M Xenonauts mod in the future :) Whatever needs to be done to make it that bad for kids and teenagers but awesome for adults. It would satisfy my evil thirst >). I'm kidding now. If X-COM is as great as it is and rated E, then Xenonauts need not change at all.

Kill able animals perhaps? Farm animals in farmlands I mean, also accidental killings. I'm hoping aliens don't target the farm animals.

  8. Btw are you waiting to preorder until beta because you dont have the money or because you dont want to play untill beta? Paying now gives Chris a better chance to make a better game =). (you don't have to answer I just wanted to point it out ^^)

Yes, I will save my money as I'm very poor and without work for the past 5 months. I would like to buy premium because I feel this game will be what I want in an X-COM clone. I would love to play-test early builds of any entertaining game because I enjoy looking for bugs and glitches to report making sure my game is as good as it'll get in the future.

Plus, I have my doubts on the latest trailer of the new X-COM game by 2K Games. I feel they will miss somethings I wanted and add too much of something I don't want. I hate triple-A devs nowadays, with a passion. I refuse to play Triple-A titles until they get a big price drop in the future.

Only adult civilians (male and female) and local forces (military, etc.) are planned.

Good to know :) Thank you!

  9. 1) Local forces are already intended.

    2) Children might be hard to argue why they should be in, at least in terror missions. They would probably require different AI then regular civvies if there should be any point to it. And that would probably jsut be too much work to be worth it.

Have children running around get shot, that will get you emotional. I would say it makes no difference to, I just want great balanced game. I just thought adding varieties on useless NPCs would be neat.

    3) There's going to be an arctic/snow tileset. Right now we have industrial and farm. Not sure how many others we are getting but at least a couple more. National tilesets are going too be a lot of work and probably very little reward. You could modd in tilesets yourself. Not sure if you would be able to tie them to nations/regions unless you ask Chris for it in the modders wishlist section.

I read that they had to pay a whole lot of money to remake tilesets to keep up with triple-A game developers. So I thought if they won't make a couple hundred unique tilesets for going to different parts of the world, because of the costs or its just a pain in the a$$, maybe let modders implement them as you said :)

  10. First, I'm wondering what kind of NPCs will be added in the ground maps besides citizens blocking your way.

I'm hoping for police officers and other kinds of armed guards who would try to help you attack the alien presence with weaker damage done or just run and hide. In harder difficulties, Aliens can mind control the armed officers to start firing your way, lmao. So you kill the officer/the mind controlling alien or kill both :) The best part is you don't know the NPC is mind controlled until it attacks you. Good times to be had.

I'm hoping for a variety of NPCs later on, such as Children, elderly, and police as stated above! What do you guys think?

Second, I'm really really hoping for unique tile sets for every country you go to in the world. If you go to japan, I'm hoping for Japanese-style tile sets. If you go to Antarctica to eliminate an alien threat, I'm hoping for an icy-type terrain and I'll add that it would be sweet to give your soldiers a cool looking outfit to combat the extreme weather climate.

    Wishful thinking I suppose :)

Btw, I'll be per-ordering when this bad boy goes to Beta stage!
