I recently completed my first playthrough of Xenonauts. I encountered many bugs, so I'll just report them all here.
- Dialogs with text cannot scroll, yet do not display all text. Might be because I have Windows set to increased DPI (175%), but it's still game's problem. For example, the epilogue dialog text was cut, so I had to read it directly in XML files if I wanted to know.
- In final mission, when reapers are set loose, all soldiers nearby got terminated, yet I had to wait countless reapers to move through a field of vision, provided for me by a... fountain or whatever that thing in the middle of hallway was.
- Vision through walls, especially obvious with 360° vision armour when you move by outer walls of UFO (carrier in my case) or in corridors of final mission (where I could see the side tunnels).
- In final mission, one soldier died standing on a fire, others teleported out, yet that soldier got recovered (got the lucky survive roll, even though in final mission it doesn't make any sense that anyone left there could survive).
- In arctic map, flying armour can fly up and down through some roofs.
- In farm map (with small UFO IIRC) there was a ~3x3 black spot of nothingness by a barn, soldiers could not step on it or see anything there.
- Many graphical glitches, like incorrect Z order (soldier in front of something, but that something drawing over the soldier).
- Fires and smoke inside UFO not 'starting' sometimes after loading a game, which also totally changes the fighting conditions.
- UFOs getting stuck on map, I got one that seemingly stays forever (stays past future UFO waves).
- Auto-resolve allowing air fight victories when ammo carried by plane does not actually suffice to down the UFO (checked with manual fights).
- Dancing soldiers when they take a shot (something to do with line of fire I guess).
- Soldier holding an armed explosive, upon turn it detonates and game crashes (100% reproducible). Possibly related to demolishing the nearby building.
- Once the game crashed on loading (was geoscape savegame). Could not reproduce. But there are random crashes like that.
- Not sure when it happens, but I've seen sniper rifle magically reload itself when swapping it to backpack and use some other weapon in the meanwhile.
- Aliens do not actually consume ammo. Some of us like realism here as well. Not really a bug, ignore if you wish.
- Victims in missions do not count towards the global counter.
- Xenopedia and other texts are full of typos.
- There is a bunch of serious inconsistencies between Xenopedia values and what we see in game: e.g. base radar ranges vs aircraft ranges (base radar range specified at, like, 5-times less than actual), e.g. descriptions like "will allow us to produce plasma weapons of our own" when you already had them long ago, e.g. plasma cannon has 4 shots per battery says xenopedia, but in-mission displays 1/1, e.g. Hunter vehicle costs 30k, then you find it actually costs 60k.
I'm attaching savegames to demonstrate some of the bugs.
