  1. Did the forum just keel over and die for anybody else?

    Anyway, that's pretty cool.

Got to love it when someone refers to a grenade launcher as a close quarters weapon. :P

How did the character get the ship? And are they using missiles in SW? Or are they a "look it just shoots a shiny ball, and torpedoes sound cool" kind of torpedoes.

  2. with hidden awesome stuff in my mechanical left arm

QWas the rope launcher in the lateral antebrachial area, one shot grenade launcher in the medial antebrachial area, and a single disc shaped thermal detonator in the palm for easy sneaking it in?

nifty ship, too. The Jabberwock Mk II. She was a beauty.

Is it something from the STAR WARS lore? Did you make it up? How did it look like, what were it's specs? How expencive was it? I must know!

Hope there's a SW rpg (not mmo) one day that allows for non-force using characters

Yeah that would be a nice tactical RPG, but a lightsaber is just too iconic for SW. Doubt anyone at disney would authorize that.

  3. The UFO series with active pause - real-time and SLS don't mix very well.

I personally LOVED those games. Except aftermath because fuck me, that game embodies undetected mid-end game imbalance due to no one play testing the thing before release. Their basic plasma gun was a splash damage grenade launcher that could one shot an entire tightly packed squad. Had rocket launchers with a magazine of six rockets and the refire rate of 0.5 seconds. The reticulans were SO overpowered the only way you could win is to toss a smoke grenade in the room which makes aiming impossible and then throwing all the grenades into that smoke and hope everything dies.

  4. I demand artillery support!

    You have rocket launchers.

With unmanned vehicles it basicly boils down to throwing money at aliens until they die...

Nope you can't win with just vehicles.

Again - it's only a matter of coded coefficients, as it can be avoided by adding a chance to destroy/penetrate cover.

    We have that.

why use it to kill enemies with no experience gain, while your troops can kill any foe a map away with their blaster launchers and gain exp/accuracy or just use mind control and let aliens kill themselvs?

Do you have soldiers that have a rocket launcher with a magazine of six missiles? Or soldiers that can carry a dual 50 cal machine gun turret? Didn't think so.

Oh and you don't have blaster launchers and PSI powers.

  5. Flat maps. Seriously, you really shouldn't do a remake that's actualy worse than the original!

    xcom.jpg

Oh yeah, look at all them hills. -_-

Lack of cover on the maps - the maps are flat AND empty.

Some maps are like that. Basically, when you shoot down a small alien vessel they have about 1-4 guys. Spending 30 minutes runnnig through a maze searching for 1 last alien is just aggrovating. The open maps are designed for that purpouse. They are meant to show a quick sweep mission, which essentially what those kind of missions are. Larger UFOs should have more packed maps.

    Make ingame vehicles manned

    They are manned.

You could always just treat it like an armour suit (Panzerkleins! YES! )

You caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan't. Machines can't possibly increase their performance by being more "experienced".

Speed is determined by engines. Resistance to damage is armor. Accuracy depends on the aiming systems installed. The only way to improve that is by installing new parts. Sure the driver can get a little bit better at molesting the transmission lever. But the change to the AP would realistically be very incremental.

An experienced driver can't change the physical properties of matter. Mechanical parts can't become stronger over use like muscles can, they can only wear off. The stats gain would be too incremental to even bother implementing.(wasting development time and resources)

  6. Goddamnit! All this sophisticated discussion of biscuits on the first page is making me feel like a scrub. Usually when i go to my local 24/7 mini shop i just look at the sweets counter , see something new and: "That looks yummy, hey cashier gimme some of...that shit." After which i return home to begin my multi-hour torrented anime/mov... i mean observation of stuff on the internet session. 1/3 times "that shit" turns out to be shit. And not in the unedible kind of shit, but "man if only i would have gone for the eclers" kind of shit.

  7. @MLGertzert @Assoonasitis

Well i have successfully deciphered the davinci code. Calculated an efficient way of faster than light travel. Found the meaning of life, found out which one of the chicken/egg pair came first. And triangulated the coordinates of R'lyeh.

But i can't understand what are you talking about. And what's with the picture?

  8. Corporal Cox, the maintenance staff is 20 minutes out. Hold position in the kitchen, wait for beta and gamma squads to finish dinner then sterilize the dishes.

Oh so it's the black man doing all the menial work huh? :P

  9. As for the post. I'd say this motha fucka right here.

    http://www.mangatank.com/manga/assassination-classroom-1/c1/10-1

He can travel at mach 20. Capable of not generating a sonic boom while at mach speeds. He has disintegrated 70% of the moons mass, making it a crescend, and is capable of destroying the earth. Not everything on the surface, but the whole damn planet. Fun fact: detonating all of the earths nukes at once at the same place would do NOTHING to the planet iself. This guy can. And that is only one specimen of the whateverthefukthisthingis spieces.

  10. Wonderful. I honestly don't know where to begin. with the missed point or the assumptions? I'm going to continue to argue with HWP and see if the issue resolves itself down the line.

No missed point. And i really don't think you fully understand what antimatter is. Since it is a real thing with a lot of it's core characteristics established you can't just switch it up with unobtainium or positronic polarity plasma insert more generic terms here star trek shields to try to explain sci fi tropes.

My point is that we are dealing with science fiction and unknown laws of nature are not possible to prove wrong and allowed to be used by authors. They did it when they came up with Element-115.

When someone tells me that FTL or something impossible i retaliate with "1000 years ago people didn't really operate with the ideas of thrust, fossil fuels, aerodynamics when constructing things, for them a boeing is impossible because, it is just a lot of tons of metal because of the many things not discovered back then". Which means people may transcend the limitations of old with discovery of new laws in the world and new technologies, but they do not outright negate the laws established previously. Current tech uses thrust and lifting power created in the different pressures around the wing to outpower the gravitational pull of the planet, but it does not negate gravity. Same thing with a antimatter-matter hybrid , you must turn off a few very important aspects of physics. There is no way around it. If there is a way or a technique of creating such a hybrid then it basically gives you the ability to alter physics to your liking by changing the ways molecules act. It's that big.

And before you go "hurry durr focus on the technobabbble more will ya?" i respond with - stop using terms to explain things that are in no way solvable with said terms. It's like reading an old issue of iron man where thrusters, super strong hydrowlics, and magnets strong enough to rip doors off of safes are explained by sprinkling transistors over them.

But i mean it. There is no worse hypotethical example one could use in durable material construction then antimatter. Which is the the thing that destroys matter if they contact each other, it's in the name. You only hurt your point more. It's like someone telling me that human lungs can recycle sea water just because water contains oxygen(H2O with an O being said oxygen). Does not work that way man. Just try to restructure the "arrangement of molecules" point. Antimatter is not accepable.

    Try, something else.

I assumed something massive and circular.

Just replace it with "particle accelerator" then. Didn't want to use it becase it implies laser along with other possibilities. It's pretty vague. Plus you also need the devices to capture and transport energy. Which an accelerator doesn't necessary have. So i decided to go with collider to be slightly less vague.

  11. Really you are arguing that if aliens had access to that they would do this? Seriously?

If they could do this they would be gods. Since they do not oblidirate everything that stands in their way they don't have such extreme capabilities. Fusing matter with antimatter without it blowing the hell up would be a feat like turning off the gravitational pull of a planet or draining a star of all it's energy in seconds. Basically gods, at least compared to a civilization like ours.

You do not know what properties the antimatter (or fictive unobtanium matter if you prefer that

Actaully antimatter exists. Scientists actually generated a few particles of it. Soooo...not really unobtainium now is it?

    Since you missed my point

I got your point, i used it against trashman on the topic of humans being helpless against an invasion of a FTL capable civilization. Not due to super durable materials necessary, but still there. The method you used to convey said point was...questionable, should have ended at the "arrangement of molecules" argument. Like a substance becoming tougher or weaker if you arrange the molecules in a hexagon pattern for example, makes sence. But then you went with antimatter and ruined it. -_-

Who mentioned a particle collider btw?
and it generates anti-matter when bombarded with certain particles,

You kind of need to accelerate particles in a certain direction to bombard anything with them.

Bombardment implies colliding of hings with things right?
