  1. I have some ideas, sadly I know almost no C++ beyond 'Hello World' as I've just started learning. Thus, i cannot make them happen. But I'd like to run them by coders of CE.

(I still have not started a game in Xenonauts yet because I am feeling very ill. I haven't gotten work done that needs doing either.)

Anyway, in XCOM Enemy within, you see news reels which say things like "militias are reported to be attacking aliens worldwide." Also, since you can sell alien items on the grey market, and sometimes governments will actually request corpses or any kind of alien salvage, I think some reasonable assumptions are in order. (Yes I know, Xenonauts is not XCOM, but we all know it is designed to be a successor.)

Each government is obviously doing STEM research on their own, as well as military planning, independent of XCOM/Xenonauts. Therefore, I think it would be very interesting to be able to acquire some direct assistance from any nation which has considerable military/economic power. By assistance I mean providing garrison troops, military equipment and personnel during battles. I think it would be DOUBLY interesting if friendly AI could command their own troops, though the more obvious solution is that you are given command. As for militias, they'd obviously exist, and I think it would be interesting if you could recruit civilians with combat/ police training / experience with firearms, as free (but lower quality) garrison troops, as they would be volunteers.

It might also be interesting to be able to request military personnel from one of the independent governments, as in, request a certain amount of troops or equipment to be temporarily under your command. If there is a UFO, you can request local fighters to scramble to provide additional aerial firepower.

  2. Nope, it's not a modern setting, it's in a sci-fi setting. And episodic can mean a lot of things; arguably the original Starcraft was episodic because it had the Brood War expansion and Warcraft 3 was episodic because it had the Frozen Throne expansion, but both of those were massive successes and massive improvements.

Chris, can you give me a sales pitch to attract me to Pathfinders? What is it about the 'setting' of Pathfinders which is unique and would draw me in? Does it contain supernatural stuff, aliens, something in the theme which is fascinating? Is it based on the real world in the future? Is it a self contained universe not our own? How about co-op and AI allies? The latter two are HUGE selling points to me. Now I realize this game is in the ultra early stages of development, if you don't know or Goldhawk is not willing to reveal it yet, no problem, I understand. I will await updates.

  3. Is there a guide, preferably as short as possible, but if length is necessary I can accept that, to ease me into Xenonauts (with CE installed.) I have never played this before, nor have I played the original XCOM. I have played XCOM 2012, which I love.

  4. Hi Chris. I want to express my opinion about the concept of Pathfinders. Unfortunately, I don't like it for the reasons I shall state. It is 'episodic.' I strongly dislike games which have excessive dlc (preferably NO dlc at all.) But more importantly, and correct me if I am wrong, this game has a modern setting as a mercenary company. I don't find this interesting in the slightest. It is very rare that I will touch turn based games, XCOM, Making History, and Civ V are games I love precisely because they bring something genuinely unique to the table. Civ V and Making History allow me to play as practically ANY nation, kingdom, tribe, etc, that ever existed. This is the selling point. XCOM, the concept is awesome, interesting, and unique. It is very epic in scope. In addition, I personally despise people who think the real UFO phenomena is a bunch of green space dudes trying to fix our o-zone layer by probing our butts, and thus I like the idea of wrecking the butts of aliens with bullets. My quirks aside, a game where you command a squad of mercenaries in a modern day setting, is just very generic and unappealing to me. I realize this is just me. However, I am almost certain that the appeal of the setting is much smaller in general compared to Xenonauts. THis is my suspicion. You guys I think would have to overcome this by having outstanding gameplay. But for me, I doubt an outstanding game could draw me in if I don't like the setting. Example: No doubt, there are some incredibly well done, well coded sports games, with every element being top notch. I would still not play such a game because sports do not interest me. This is my 2 cents. If it isn't helpful, feel free to ignore it. It's just I think you guys need to make the setting and theme attractive to bring in the fish.

  5. Are there any options in CE which make the game anymore accessible or streamlined for people like me who are bad at games? Also, can your troops be trained in the barracks and get xp that way, not just from fighting?

  6. Are all mods available for the GOG version? this includes stuff on Steamworks. I do not currently own the game because it is well out of my price range, which is pitifully low, about six dollars. I have some Steam cash and that is about it. I'd have to buy it from GOG thru a friend if I were to get it in places other than Steam. I just know that sometimes there are discounts at different times on different sites and If I am able to grab it I want to make sure I'll have no problem applying mods to it. The Summer sale did not offer a substantial discount so I couldn't get it then. To forum-goers, don't bark me claiming "GOSH XENONAUTS IS WORTH 60 DOLLARS." You cannot extract blood from a turnip. I'm not going to steal Xenonauts from the internet either. I'm just waiting for a heavy discount on Steam, or elsewhere. But I really want to be able to use Steamworks. Is there anyway to know when a discount is coming up?
