  1. Hi Chris, have you considered implementing prone to replace crouch? prone IRL is slower to switch to. Also, Perhaps instead of making couch or not have any benefits, maybe cap it as it can only be done either in proximity to cover, or maybe make it available every other turn or every third turn. admittedly, having it available only after x amount of turns is a bit more like a board game and might hurt immersion.

  2. I found the Xenonauts ost to be a bit boring. Originally Phoenix Point was only going to have Broomhall, but thanks to feedback, Both Broomhall's and Simeon Dotkov (their sound director), will have music in the final soundtrack.

This track is excellent and sets the tone very well. Is there any chance X2 will have a more electronic, sci-fi sounding score?

Yeah, I like the sound of that. After the release pressure on the Kickstarter and the closed Beta I might look into this in my spare time.
I do think it'll be generally straight forward to mod into the game if we don't include it ourselves.

I would imagine that balancing it in terms of how the aliens would feel could be an issue.
As in, I don't think that most aliens work well for large-scale battles. The idea being that aliens are rather exclusive / in the background.

Fighting a host of mind-controlled soldiers backed up by an alien might not be interesting enough.

Thanks for the feedback. I really appreciate the consideration. Hmmmm. By "large battles" allow me to clarify. I don't mean hundreds of NATO/Warsaw soldiers duking it out with Aliens. Rather I mean a few dozen, perhaps behind fortifications and maybe with vehicle support. They are holding off the aliens as best as they can (in  that they can fight and do inflict casualties on the aliens) but they are in a situation where It's unlikely they will win without Xnaut support. The player's job is to prevent their destruction and/or say stop the aliens from capturing something the NATO/Warsaw soldiers are protecting, technology, VIP, recovering a captured alien, etc. I mean for the non-Xnaut troops to be controlled by AI as well.

  4. I may have brought this up early last year, though I don't fully recall. Since there is the Cold War going on, is propaganda a factor, in relation to, nor not in relation to the aliens? Let's say a "faction" within NATO or Warsaw is indepdently working on some technology, against the aliens, or even in league with them, this might something to think about for a "stealth mission." You dispatch one or a small number of agents to recover to destroy said technology, while covering your tracks.

If i'm bringing up a dead horse, my apologies. Currently dealing with a stressful situation in RL.

Anyway, I liked that local police existed in X1. But they were weak and not very intelligent. I'd like to see occasional incidents or big battles wherethe mission is to rescue a force of NATO or Warsaw troops under attack. The idea is that, this force can hold its own, (and their tech would improve over time like Xnauts), but ultimately they will be wiped out if you can't get to them during the ground mission and help them fight off the aliens, since there are too many of them. Helping this force would give improve relations wth Xnauts and said faction. Further, for propaganda, it could be that Xnauts puts out propaganda saying "Warsaw helps native defeat extremist rebels" in at attempt to improve relations between both parties but without revealing the alien threat.

  5. I'm back to playing X1 again. Each battle is a frustrating struggle. It would be nice to be able to train your troops in X2 so they can keep up with Xenonauts on the field. In real life, militaries not only have minimum physical requirements, but have minimum intelligence requirements as well. You can't be a tanker in real life if you're bad at math (at least during WW2, I don't know how tank internal stuff has changed) because you have to very quickly make calculations on the fly to hit a target. Xenonauts are not just regular military, they are literally special forces. There is no reason why agents / troops (don't know what the right word is) should be deficient in any way.

Also, please try to avoid the "armor is almost useless" trope. It would be great if every tech item developed has a benefit and is not offset completely by problems or simply so little of an upgrade its not worth it.

Would be interesting to see something similar to "Alien Infiltration %" like there is in X-Com Apocalypse. Possibly within national governments, or NATO and Warsaw, and so forth. More infiltration might mean less funding. This might not work well with the proposed Cold War system in my other thread though.

  6. Hi to Chris and Goldhawk!

I am curious what route you guys intend to go with the soundtrack (if it's not already developed).

There is an obscure composer who I would recommend simply because no one's hired him in forever but his music was weird and interesting.

Bruce Faulconer, who did the original DBZ music from 1999 to the early 2000's.

Here's a selection of songs. Obviously they won't fit X2 perfectly, but some elements of the songs might.

  7. Alright Chris. What about a 1950s or even 30s setting? I doubt the latter would be considered but why not ask? Lastly, would you consider making a Tripod alien manned Vehicle, inspired by War of the Worlds and related aesthetics? (Preferably not based on something really modern like the tripods in Spielberg's 2005 novel.

    Here some examples.

  8. TRIPODS!

I would love to see Tripods, with an old school sci-fi aesthetic, not something like the 2005 Spielberg movie which was awful imo.

Here's a crazy idea. I've already suggested a 1950's start date (I would STILL LOVE THIS.) Why not October, 1938?

That was when the original Radio dramatization of the novel was broadcast by Orson Welles, causing lots of mayhem since a fair few people believed it. My grandmother passed away in 2010. She told me long before she died, she did have a vague recollection of the original broadcast!

    EDIT:

Also please some epic sci fi battle music and creepy foreboding in the geoscape or before battle. Melodic is better than ambient, imo.

  9. I think I agree with you Ninothree. I assume NATO and USSR are pretty much allies out of necessity. historically the USSR was really good (unfortunately) at infiltration, sabatoge, and spreading misinformation. But I wasn't exactly thinking of an Alliance or Nation-state faction system. I was thinking more of agencies, ground forces, and whatnot, perhaps some private military orgs.

  10. This probably won't happen but I love the faction system in X-Com Apocalypse. Specifically, I liked that Megapol would fight UFOs as well, and that there was the Sirius cult which were sympathetic to the Aliens and openly caused problems for X-Com. I've always thought it was a bit unrealistic that Nation-States would not have their own plans in regards to alien invasion. There is an AI ally mod for XCOM 2 which I contributed the story to on Nexus. It's pretty darn neat. Basically remnant of national militaries formed a militia which both acts on their own, and in concert with XCOM. Part of this, admittedly, is my shear fascination with AI allies in games. (if any of this happens, it would be great for faction(s) to have their own technological progression so they don't become totally outgunned as the game progresses, such as a national or supranational non-Xenonaut military organization.) Further if there is something like "France wants to buy alien corpses to study" then this might effect non-Xenonaut technology in some way.

I found the alien infiltration of the government % in X-Com apocalypse to be satisfyingly creepy and worrisome.

That being said, I would like the Geoscape to be more streamlined and simpler. I remember in X1 around Israel or very close to Egypt was kind of the optimal place to put your first base. I'm hoping you guys can have some kind of gradation. As in there are pre-defined locations which you can choose from (preferably a good number) but with logic behind them. I didn't like having to worry about exact points of longitude and latitude.

So far I haven't seen a date mentioned, but I hope it's not something like 2050 AD. A 1950's date, might be very very interesting. It's nice to have some tangible real world aesthetics in a game. Near and Far future settings are really over-saturated in games today. One of the things I liked about X1 was it was set in the past, not present.
