  1. I finally tried playing the alpha yesterday and was incredibly impressed! The interceptor combat is really cool and the geoscape has an amazing feel. Also very impressed with the amount of detail in the writing. Love the tileset details etc.

I have a few suggestions though.

    1. When buying/selling/assigning researchers, it would be great to have a movable bar. It takes a long time to click the arrow to sell 80 piece of alien alloy for example. It would best, as in Apocalypse, where you can slide the bar to quickly sell everything. Assigning many scientists to a project would also help a great deal.

    2. Slow down the smoke animation. It's too fast! I'd recommend even redoing it so its more dispersed less detailed as the details enhance the tiling effect so it doesn't look so good and scary. There also needs to be some more lighter smoke variations so that the smoke fades out over an area.

    3. Lower alpha of walls that are in front of soldiers.

    4. Make the fog of war much scarier by having more of a falloff effect like in the first two games. There absolutely must be a library available that can filter tile set colors/contrasts to get the right look, simply darkening them would definitely be good enough though.

    5. Have civilians running away from the aliens. They seem to run randomly, and often towards them. As panicked as people can get, they never run towards the source of the panic.

    5. Soldeirs should sometimes survive being "killed", if they don't already...

    6. Number 4 again. I cannot stress how important the fog of war is. It is till the main reason I'm holding off on contributing to Kickstarter :(

As much as I agree with you on a lot of these things, the fog of war doesn't matter to me.

  2. News Reporter: "Wolfy! how did that mission go with your soldiers?"

Wolfy: "It was a pretty good mission"

News Reporter: "Could you define good?"

Wolfy: "Here i'll give you my tier of mission results; Ok means everyone died except for 1 person, Good means half of them died, and a perfect mission is when only 1 dies"

News Reporter: "What if it's a bad mission?"

Wolfy: "You don't want to know"

    :P

    Got that right.

And thothkins, you'll be coming to the front of the skyranger soon enough. Haha...HAHAHA....

  3. I never saved at the start of a ground mission. Makes it far more dangerous. I always played straight through, no reloads. Dying means you start it all over.

I only save due to the game crashing.

  4. It isn't pseudo 3D.

It is actually more like pseudo 2D.

let's assume 8 new spritesheets for crawl (compass directions).

At the moment there are 19 weapons listed in the basic armour folder.

Assume 7 sets of armour also as I remember that number being used, possibly by Chris.

That is already 1000+ new animation files.

I would guess that, as the current weapons only cover the first two tiers and there are going to be four plus alien weapons, you could easily double that at least.

Same again on top if you added sprint and wanted new animations for it (the current one speeded up would look silly).

As I said, doable but not without a good reason.

They didn't plan out the spriting well I guess.... *goes back and hides in his game maker cave*

  5. whatheckareyoutalkingabout?

And SOOOOOO LAME to save just as your mission starts!!! Go HARDCORE Dude! :D

*continues to laugh at the chance of this happening* Ha! That was a good one. *glares at the coming episodes of terror (not terror missions per say)*

  6. For some reason, I kinda want one of the solders to state "wait...is that...Soylent green?!" when the first see the alien food supply.

    xD

Anywho, a new episode hopefully today or tomorrow- With disasters!

  7. If you're short a soldier, I'd be happy to enlist. My guess is that I'll survive 3 mission of me actually fighting

Also, I should expect to see myself around ep. 17?

Uh... you'll probably come in episode 24 or so. I need to stop recording in advanced :x

    Sorry,

Sgt thothkins: Ah Jeez, he's covered in gore. Clean him up someone

Pvt Red Shirt: >chokes back puke<

Major Hugz: Where are the two men that were with him?

Sgt thothkins: I think that's the brains of one of them on his shoulder.

    Pvt Red Shirt: >Pukes<

Major Hugz: What's he muttering all the time.

Sgt thothkins: Can't tell. Its one of those faint whispers like you get in aliens films. Lucky we have a specialist.

Cpl Hicks: He's saying 'Kill me. Kiiillll meeeeeee'

    Sgt thothkins: No, he isn't

Cpl Hicks: Oh sorry, wrong movie. He's saying....... 'the cuteness.... the cuteness....'

Pledge $300 and a major organ to see our new project....

    XenoKoalas

    When cuteness meets terror...

    xD

OT: I'm gonna try and get one out today. Hopefully. OFFTOPIC: In the other news the game I mentioned should be coming with a demo soon.

    Hi!

I really think you should comment your videos, just watching you play is not so interesting...

I love those let's play videos, but the ones wich the player is talking thru the game, making funny comments!

Looking foward to see that ;)

The reason there is no commentary is:

    My laptop has no mic.

    My voice is crackly.

Who would want to hear a 13 year old yell at his soldiers. And be shy.

AND because... the mic thing again.

And also, about the lack of updates to the LP, I am very sorry! I may even for you guys, if you want, upload an hour long special for.. 13 is it? Anywho, please say so if you do! And thothkins, you'll get out of the ship soon. You to Stormer. Not to say either of you will live, but hey!

  10. The pilots came back from a sortie looking a little singed this week. Apparently there were some harsh words with the lab techs I didn't even know we had lab techs. I thought they were cleaners.

Once again, we rely on the aliens getting bored with shooting at our craft and head off to a terror mission.

We send a tank out first, but it doesn't whimper or moan anywhere near as much as a Rookie, so I remain slightly unfulfilled.

Rookie Nfire3 is sent out to do things the old fashioned way, and is promptly scythed down by plasma fire. Sectoids again!

Sgt Gaudlike & Squaddie Arioch go out to support the civilians or possibly raid NFire3's corpse.

Fortunately my Greenpeace note saying that Sectoids look too much like dolphins to be killed spares me from any combat.

Unfortunately my note doesn't extend to Cyberdisks and for a horrible moment I think I'm about to be ordered out after Gaudlike's demise.

TNA are myself are required to mop up after the silly toy of a tank runs out of ammo. Shooting from as far away as possible, a Secotid falls. I shed a tear for dolphins everywhere and vow to increase my Greenpeace donation.

TNA manages to pick off the last Sectoid in the smoking ruins of of a another lost suburban family home. Never mind the heart breaking tragedy of stepping on symbolically charred dolls. Do the aliens stop for a moment to think about the property prices? I think not.

As one Sgt passes, another takes their place in this cruel world as TNA gets a promotion for some sterling sniper work in the ashes.

I think I'll have to re watch this week's episode of UFO in the Skyranger. Sectoids always unnerve me.

These are awesome, nice job. Keep 'em coming :)

  11. Wolfy, how come no updates?!:

I'm very sorry for no updates everyone! I got VERY busy with school ect. I hope to finish an episode to get out by tonight or tomorrow.

And also I've been working on my X-COM and X@COM(Really not based on it, just same art style.) based game, S.P.A.C.E.

    Anyways, hold tight!

  12. Each movement mode would be another few thousand sprites.

It isn't something to be done lightly.

If it added a lot to the game then I would support it if the kickstarter goes well enough.

It would need to have some use other than look good though.

Goodness, I make games and I don't do thousands of sprites for that stuff... I understand its harder because the pseudo 3D though.

  13. the good news is that you won't be a rookie for long.

the bad news is that this will be because you will be dead.

the worse news is that your vital organs will be harvested for Sectoid milk shake

Oh, don't worry. You'll all be. Whats funny is that puts you guys all low, because sectoids are food in X-COM: Apocalypse. Heh

  14. I have been somewhat following the game for a while now, and I want version 4 back!(I kid I kid xP)

Anyways, one of my favorite things about the game is that I can get it on my Mac, just taking the visual files from my windows copy over to it. My LEAST favorite thing about the game is the endless reaction fire from aliens. I feel like I take two steps before 4 auto shots come my way, all missing, going allll the way to the end of the map.

    Anyways, good luck!
