Yeah, added shadow makes it look much nicer. Great work! Can you get the shadow a bit blurrier like the yellow car in your screenshot has?
I can and will eventually, for some reason I can't find out how to do it, even though I have done it plenty of times before, once I figure it out I will change them both

Your artillery lacks shadow, but otherwise, looking good! I'd love to have road work props, cones and machinery.
Very good point, I did read about adding shadows in, I will look it up again and fix that. I will also aim on adding cones, roadworks etc too
Good job, man. Keep 'em coming.It would be nice to have a map scene on a rural town setting with the artillery gun, sand bags and destroyed tanks/houses on fire etc like the town was just attacked and you're showing up for back-up.
This is my intention, eventually make a tileset for a city or town (that actually looks like a town not 2houses)

Pretty good. Are these 2d hand drawn or 3d rendered in different perspectives and colored thereafter by hand or pretextured ?
I have scenes set up in blender to allow for 3d isometric rendering. I then export the UVmap from blender to gimp for editing, place it back in blender and then do a final render to save as a sprite

I have been thinking, since this is based in 1970's that there should be a little more WWII era stuff laying around, or at least vietnamese. So I am thinking of designing a few howitzer cannon props, as well as alien equipment that they may use to suppress a target
One thing I do need to ask is, how do I go about replacing an existing file with my door, to see if it works all ok. All the files are empty when I look for them to swap over.

So my tiles have come a long way over the past couple days and in the next few days I will feel comfortable releasing a prop version, but continue to make more in the process which later versions will be downloadable here.

Realistic is a hard word to use in such a situation, authentic is more applicable, but honestly reloading isn't that straight forward, a lot of the time you are doing several things to reload that one clip. Scale wise, 30-40tu's sounds about right, thats 10tiles of movement but opinion is opinion

Yea I noticed in the files 96x48 is one of the densities used, but for some tiles it didn't even fill that so it's some other range, unless I am missing something
Also thanks thixotrop, I left him a message, to see how he did it
EDIT :- Worked out how to do it, did some online research about isometric.
Not great, but it was just a test to see if I was doing it right

Hey man great work. Like you I want to do the same, however with blender.
I have a couple questinos, what is the setup to get it just right for xenonauts? What is the camera angle // pixel density for objects?

My aim is to make new tiles from scratch, for example doors, vehicles, props to hide behind for either replacements or modding purposes.

I have looked through the sticky notes to see if I have missed anything, but I don't seem to see anything about it.
I want to make some new tiles using blender to 3d model the object, and then turn it into a sprite. The two things I want to know are :-
- What angle is the xenonauts isometric camera set to?
- What is the pixel count of an individual tile

I'm wondering, then, how much effort it would be to produce the following:
1) A set of basic hull tiles (4 total)
2) A set of exterior doors (4 total)
3) A set of corner tiles (8 total: 4 inward facing and 4 outward facing)
4) (Maybe) a set of diagonal hull tiles (I'm not sure if diagonals are a good idea or not)
I would say within a week, you could have the basic tiles all ready to go, with varients upon them to give a little more unique flavour. I can give it a shot, however a couple things I need to know are :-
- What angle does the camera need to be in a 3d modelling program to get the same angle as xenonauts.
- How big is a single tile in xenonauts, in pixels

I I am interested in helping with art design and assets.

I would absolutely love to help with this project. I mostly do blender 3d artwork and then convert it to sprite based images for editing or finals, if there is anything I can do give me a message on the forums!

So I have been dabbling in art asset changing for Xenonauts, and there has been talk of potential mods involving us being the aliens...so I decided to make a little mock up of a potential download for you guys a couple weeks down the line, if the demand warrants more....spoilers below
(Pre warning, it is litterally the head, well aware of the ahem...obvious hands and profile mismatch...call it restricted access on the alien profile ;D)

It does sound like a great idea to me, more like a survival experience, opposed to an ultimate ending. The lack of cities etc in this game, seems to always indicate everybody has already died anyway

Welcome everybody, I have now updated the pack to include both the rankings but also the redux editions of the ingame medallions following the original designs. Download link has been updated!
My next concern is to get some varied styles in game, I have yet to start any, so if you feel you have anything you would love to be ingame, give me some feedback in this thread and I will see what I can come up with!
Still labelled as 1.06, however the contents of this mod should not be gamebreaking throughout later editions of Xenonauts (1.07 is safe)

Honestly I would say yes and no. Maybe it is possible but the pixel density poses a problem due to the small sizes per tile, however a work around could be to make it span over many tiles.
In theory I could model the scene I wanted to be as the fake 3d room then turn it into a sp be placed on the wall, I will try it in the next couple weeks. First ivwant to focus on tile sets. My plan is to have :-
WWII tile prop set and construction tile set downloadable in the next 2-3 days. I will update the top page the ideas for up coming tiles
