By crashing, the game vanishes and I get a window that says "Xenonauts has stopped working, windows is checking for a solution"

Game crashes during ground combat. It seems to happen mostly when moving, either clicking where the squares are red or possibly where they are orange, beyond the reserved TUs. This doesn't happen every time but I can't take more than two turns without a crash. Game is virtually unplayable in this state. I'm running windows 8.1, GeForce GTX 660 2GB, don't know what else you may need. Thanks
