  1. I think this is the poorest solution to the problem. I'm worried that without the psychological effect of getting scored on your performance at the ned of the mission it will be less fun...

Wait will the xenonauts, civvies and local forces death as well as alien escapes still provide penalties? Showing only penalties sounds like it will either make the player stop caring after a while or bum the player out.

I really wish you would reconsider this Chris. :(

  2. Could you imagine it moving? The game would have to lock the screen at 3 stories high, and in my minds eye I could see painful issues where a third of the thing moves faster than the other two thirds (Apocalypse springs to mind, actually).

Maybe it could be scaled down to 2 storeys and 1 tile base? ^^

    Ah one can dream =)

  3. Do you have any sprites (or ingame screenshot) of the scuttler? I think seeing details might be overrated and that something small spiderlike could work very well indeed, without it beeing clear/relying on how pretty it is. Less might be more ^^

Aah, too bad about the Juggernaut. I would have liked to see a multi storey enemy. The concept fascinates me, but I can see how troublesome that might be. :(

  4. Yeah I think taking away the rating and positive points from ground combat, even from the ones where you get relationship benefits for shooting down the ufo is a mistake. The debreifing screen needs to have some a "reward" beyond soldiers leveling up. Some kind of pat on the head and telling the player he is a good boy.. yes he is, yes he is. Here is a biscuit!

Ok that got a bit silly but something is required or the player will feel dissapointed.

  5. Thanks a lot for your answers.

    One question more:

While Charlie (or interceptor) is out on a mission the aliens attack it's home base and destroy it. What happens to the aircraft? Do I have a chance to redirect it somewhere else? What if other bases have full docks?

Aircrafts are basically extensions of the hanger so: No, that aircraft will be lost and can not be rediurected to another hanger. Depending on if Goldhawk has forseen that set of prerequesits or not that might cause some bugs or a crash if that happens

  6. Ah, makes total sense! Unfortunately, there is no such tab, although I do have an empty hangar. I'm running v19 since I'm boycotting the Steam client. Maybe that's the issue?

There was an UI update between 19 and 20 yes but it should still be possible somewhere regardless of which version you are playing.

There is no tab in your base that lets you manage and arm your aircrafts? That sounds really strange...

I would suggest that you watch some lets play vids on youtube or something. Sooner or later they are bound to buy a condor.

  7. No, it is intended behavior. If you're playing an FPS game and an enemy bursts into a room unexpectedly, everyone takes a shot at him at the same time. It's a reaction thing - hence reaction fire.
Stk kind of quoted you saying the game was turnbased and didn't happen at the same time though :P
If we did it the other way, people would complain when an alien walked into a room full of Xenonauts on overwatch, shrugged off a rifle bullet and then killed everyone inside with a grenade. They'd ask why only one man is allowed to shoot at a target, given how tough the aliens can be.
Is there some coding issue that prevents multiple characters triggering on the same alien movement but stopping or interrupting their reaction fire if the alien dies before it is their turn? or why would only 1 get to shoot if you made it differently?
The hybrid system where you wait to see if an alien is killed by one Xenonaut before processing reaction fire from other Xenonauts is even less realistic, and too game-y for my liking. So the system we use isn't perfect in every situation but it's better than the alternatives.

Wasn't this system used by X-com though? It's kind of what is expected from us players and the only system that feels fair from our point of view. The other systems feels like they are give an unfair advantage towards the side that triggers the reaction fire of multiple units simultaniously.

What do you mean by "too game-y for my liking"? gamelike or exploitable? You haven't really been trying to mimic realism at the cost of gameplay so far imo. Why are you starting now?

  8. He wasn't expressing dissatisfication, he was merely saying that you won't convince anyone here (but forgot to think about people discovering your youtube vid from elsewhere) since we all already love it :D

(He really should have included a smily the silly bugger :P)

I think you did not direct the sentance pancakes quoted at this forum but towards people in general
