  1. It seems an unexpected threat that this game poses to Xenonauts is to cause our normally-harmonious community to dissolve into pointless circular arguments.

    Indeed.

Some people obviously have a lot of faith in Firaxis, I can respect that so I suggest we leave it at that.

There should always be at least a little speculation when it comes to remakes or even when news hits about any big franchise. When it comes to Firaxis, I think of Sid Meier's Pirates. I played it back in the day on the 8 bit N.E.S. I now own it for the computer. It's the same game except with a updated look. To me it's a classic. Even if all they do is take the old X-Com, don't change a thing in terms of game-play, and just update the graphics and make it run good on modern machines, X-Com fans will be gloriously happy. At least I would think so anyway.

  2. A little over a year ago I had tracked down one of Ken Levine's associates through a X-Com fan site and found out through a PM conversation with this person that Firaxis was working on a true strategy version remake of X-Com. I wormed the information out of the person by arguing with them that I was a bigger X-Com fan than Ken was. Even though I had the inside information that was supposed to be just a "rumor" at the time, I still learned about Xenonauts and happily spent my money on it. I'm also looking forward to "UFO:ET2" and I'll be buying that too.

Personally, I'll be picking up the Firaxis version of X-Com as well. The more "X-Com" type games that are out the better if you ask me. It's just more aliens that need killing, more technology that needs researched, and more sweet X-Com type gameplay for me to play. Hopefully a new-found interest and rebirth in the turn based strategy genre by the general gaming populace will come about from all the renewed X-Com interest as well.

  3. Yeah it's very unlikely to appear this year. Next year some time. I'm going to try and put together a formal milestone schedule to give us something to aim for though. It's too easy to let things slip without one...

Having a Milestone Schedule is of course a good goal, but, don't let any aspects be rushed out or forced before they're ready or it will show in the final release. I'm sure you know that though ;) .

  4. Maybe this is my personal view, but, I don't think it would require too much of a suspense of reality when getting stats well over 100 to a Super-Human levels. I mean, we are fighting back an alien invasion after all. Plus, when you take into account that the soldiers can have their abilities enhanced by alien goodies and what not, I can buy that for a dollar. I like thinking that by end game my soldiers would be nigh on unstoppable.

  5. I don't see why it would be so hard to script the night vision goggles to only work at night and just show nothing but white out during the day. In warm environments heat seeing goggles wouldn't work very well during the day either as heat reflects off road surfaces and many other surfaces. Just a thought.
