  1. I can't do professional-level video editing, so I can't make any actual trailers or anything, but I can provide raw footage for them as well as LP footage.

Professional editing is not needed! I was sold on this game as soon as I saw TB's video, which I'm pretty sure was shot with a camera on a tri-pod pointed at the screen :P If you do any videos, be sure to post them here so we can share them :)

  2. I'm really excited to hear more about this, but I'm pretty skeptical as well. I like the fact that it'll be coming out for consoles though, my Ps3 really needs some good strategy game love.

Anyways, I'm sure Xenonauts will do just fine; it has it's own style, and judging by the teaser pictures for Firaxis' game, a better style!

  3. Not sure why I've put off posting in this thread for so long; I guess I'm not one for introductions.

Anyways, I'm an independent games supporter/enthusiast, an aspiring musician and writer, and most likely younger than all of you.

I adore a lot of older games, and games that have an emphasis on gameplay over graphics (not to say nice graphics aren't a bonus though!). My computer can't really handle any AAA games that were made past 2005 anyways, which I'm sure had some contribution towards my love for indie games.

I appreciate everything that the Goldhawk team is doing for the X-Com fanbase, and I look forward to sticking around here and getting to know some of you!

  4. The only time I'll make my dwarves haul a bunch of stone to a dumpsite is when I'm making a stockpile, otherwise, if it's really bugging me (like in a meeting area where there is a lot of activity), I'll just use the hide command.

  5. my fisherman drowned in the first few minutes, my miner dug into and underground cave fair quickly too. and now one of my dwarfs has gone insane

Haha that sounds fun. I haven't experienced anything like that yet, but one of my dwarves fell down a hole or something, and was knocked unconscious :(.

What are your starting strategies? What kind of rooms do you guys like to build first?

  6. DF dosn't have a learning curve, it has a learning brick wall :P

    Haha, touché.

I felt inspired to take another crack at the game with a few tutorials at hand! After a few hours of fumbling around the confusing GUI, and staring mindlessly at the vast expanses of little symbols, I finally got the hang of some really basic functions. I feel like I've barely scratched the surface though, I think I just dropped a pin on it. Anyways, I'm pretty hooked right now. I've set up a dining room, bedrooms, workshops for my mason and carpenter, and a farm, and so on. Now I'm planning on setting up a brewery so my dwarves can be nice and drunk all year long ;)

P.S: Has anybody played Towns? It's an indie game that's very heavily dwarf fortress inspired. The graphics are really bad though, but I think they're just temporary until the game is out of alpha (I hope).

  7. I've attempted to play Dwarf Fortress multiple times, but the learning curve has always knocked me on my ass and left me confused and frustrated. I hear the game can be insanely fun and addictive once you get the hang of it, so I'll most likely open up some beginners guides next time I try.

  8. The assumption that a Minecraft player could not really play Xenonauts is dumb.

Ah, that's not what I meant, sorry. By "it would be weird" I meant that it would be a big change from casual gaming that attracts a much younger audience to complex strategy games as you said. Not that that's a bad thing though :P I agree that any publicity Xenonauts gets would be good.

  9. This isn't the first bug I've found in V8.2, but all the other ones that I have found are quite obvious; I'm sure Chris is aware of them.

This bug happened when I tried to move one of my troops through the front doorway that belongs to the building all the way up in the top right corner of the map. My soldier completely froze up after attempting to walk through the aforementioned doorway. He would not walk backwards, he would not shoot, he would not turn, etc. I ended up having to just leave him there for the rest of the battle.

    Happy bug-hunting! ;)

  10. Brosama - have you updated your game on Desura (the little update button next to the game on your game list)? It doesn't autoupdate. V8.1 should have the resolution chooser box in it.

    Yep, I've updated :P

Here's what I posted in the V8 resolution bug thread:

Some bugs I've noticed with the resolution selection that came with the new update:

I do not know if this is specific to my computer, or if it happens to all screens with my resolution, but when I try to load a game in 1024 x 1280, everything on the screen turns 90 degrees.

Also, when I try to run a game in 1200 x 1600, I get a "Failed creating the Direct3D device" error.

(Here's what the 90 degrees thing is doing

    )

I didn't think I should make a whole thread for it, since it seems to be working fine for others.
