  1. As a fan of warhammer 40k, I have to disagree.

I remember reading somewhere that genestealer claws are diamond tipped. Besides that, I think you are underestimating the power of bones/claws and "natural weapons". One of my buddies is a park ranger, and he said he saw the aftermath of a grizzly bear attack on a truck. The thing ripped the entire engine block right out of the chassis.

Now imagine a 10 foot tall, four armed, organic killing machine equipped with diamond tipped claws, that is probably 3-5 times as strong as even a genetically enhanced space marine, and has thousands of years of directed evolution behind it to breed it for killing humans. Does it sound so far fetched that they can claw their way through a few inches of adamantium?

I'm not saying they will rip through terminator armor like tissue paper, but come on...

No tyranid bias either, I'm a guard player.

The only thing a guardsman needs to hunt genestealers is his regulation flashlight, his cardboard box *cough* flak armor, his uplifting primer, and his standard-issue wheelbarrow to cart around his enormous brass balls.

    HERESY! *BLAM*

Err, wait... am I allowed to *BLAM* a commissar?

Diamond is good for drilling, not smashing into something, it is very hard, not strong, if you had a blade with a diamond tip the first time you tried to stab something as hard as carbon steel the diamond would break...

  2. I think that the one thing that everybody is missing is that if the Reapers have claws/talons/fangs that are that much stronger than the strongest armor then maybe the aliens would have started making their armor out of the same material...or maybe the Xenonauts should...you should be able to make a Reaper armor suit after you kill a few of them...just a thought...

  3. We're not going to take time out to fix things like C4 registering kills for the soldier that dropped it or vehicles registering kills on the stats page.

Is the game perfect? No, it isn't. But if we spend the next six months fixing tiny bugs in the game we may as well still be in Early Access. Even AAA games with budgets of millions of dollars still have bugs in them after release and expecting a tiny indie team to fix every single issue with the game after release is a little much imo.

The game is out and it totally kicks ass...you guys actually did it...it's time to start ignoring the whiners and trolls...I just hope that it was profitable enough to warrant a sequel...maybe the aliens had a colony in a solar system about 15 light years away and it took them about 20 years to get here because they had to travel at sub-light speed...the end game would be an invasion of their colony, a large alien city, battle would be both indoors and outdoors, alien terrain, 6 levels, towers to place snipers in, flying armor that you can shoot from while hovering, hover tank that can go up, drones for recon and dropping bombs...it could be epic...

  4. The higher ranking guys still suck at throwing grenades.

The same reason the "world class operational soliders" start off as crappy soliders with crappy stats. They aren't "world class operational soliders" because if they were, there's no character growth or progression because they've progressed to the point where they can't go any further.
  5. I don't enjoy the game at all with the way it is set up so I changed some stuff. I had my highest ranking soldier in Sentinel Armor get liquefied with one shot from a hidden alien and that was it for me. I start out with $2 billion dollars so I don't have to do without the stuff and structures that I want. I start the game with 10 bases so that the radar covers most of the world. I made the sniper rifles more accurate and good for longer distances. I made the armor and the aircraft a little better too. I have it so that the soldiers start with better stats.

I love playing the game the way it is now. I still have to strategize but I don't lose soldiers the way I did when playing the game with it's original settings and I don't have to run from massive UFOs.

I don't understand how anyone enjoyed playing it with the original settings, you don't have the resources you need to accomplish the mission. It didn't make any sense to me, it was like those countries were all saying WE DEMAND THAT YOU SAVE THE WORLD BUT YOU HAVE TO DO IT WITH A BUDGET OF $1.98 A MONTH !!!...the world is on the brink of annihilation but you aren't willing to give adequate funding to save it ?...all of the money in the world will have no meaning once the aliens take over...

  6. The first time I did Endgame it ended in victory before I was able to open that last door to the High Praetor. The second time around it opened and I killed the High Praetor. I haven't been able to get to the escape pods even though I destroyed the energy reactor things. The door behind the High Praetor wouldn't open, I assume that is where the escape pods are.

  7. I changed the "continentTickerStart" variable from 500 to 5000, when that didn't work I changed the funding modifiers for each country. I restarted my computer after all of the changes I made and started a new game. I changed the sell value of stuff in items.xml and manufacture.xml as well.

Is the starting cash variable the same as the "continentTickerStart" value?

  8. I've only done the most basic modding in the past, and that was very carefully following someone's instructions in just changing a variable or two. I would really like to learn how you guys are able to make real modifications to the game. I know a little bit about programming but the classes I took in college were about 15 years ago,(Visual Basic, etc). I must be doing something wrong though because I changed some variables in items.xml, manufacture.xml and gameconfig.xml to try and give myself more money to start the game and to make money while playing but the changes I made don't show up in the game. I've tried restarting my computer and I've verified that the changes were saved but no luck. I'm guessing that I am missing some basic step when it comes to modding.

Any help anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  9. There is no possibility of me not buying the game...I was full-blown addicted to X-Com UFO Defense back in the 90's...I fantasized for years for it to be remade for the modern PC, it was on my To-Do list if I ever won the lottery, I was going to hire a bunch of programmers to do it...I first heard about Xenonauts about 2 years ago, I've been waiting for it to progress a bit before I jumped in...I was recently explaining it to my girlfriend and she said, "Wow, you must really love that game"...I replied with, "Yes, yes I do"...I'm planning on buying a new desktop, and the biggest monitor that I can afford, when the game is released, if I would have known about the Kickstarter campaign I probably would have gone in for however much it took to get my name and face on one of the soldiers...I was living in London back when you guys were first getting started, if I would have known about it I would have shown up and offered myself up as slave labor for the cause...my brother-in-law is an IT Pro too, I would have blackmailed him into working for you guys for free...
