    We shouldn't discuss how powerful psi should be. Core of the discussion should be game mechanic. That means, how can player react. What are players options?

    Game mechanics that roll random number and than kill your soldier without any input from players is ...

    Yes, you are right. And this would be definitely improvement to current states.

    But what are odds of that? 1%? 2%? 5%? You have to have someone with enough TUs (players decision). This psi alien should be one that takes the agro and is killed. This is highly unlikely. But still better than nothing.

  3. I've played base assault today. I've fired all soldiers with bravery under 65 during playing (assuming that this would make difference). In the alien base one of my elite soldier got MC. One shoot three other elite soldiers (90 hp predator/wolf armored) in single turn with mag rifle. Few turns later another incident two more elite soldiers dead. Playing iron man I've finished this mission "successfully" and got final report. 5 soldiers completely dead.

    I really don't know, what could I do differently. Except using drop weapon exploit or go grenade only way. I hope this will be changed before final release. I'm not going to assault another base or ufo with psi aliens in current state.

  4. I prefer for it to be a one-way thing myself. Gives the whole game far more of a grim feel. It's like when films and games kill of main characters; it only really affects you if he or she doesn't somehow come back to life.

    I prefer more sandbox games to story driven ones. Problem is that you are going to lose country at the beginning of the game, when you don't have enough coverage yet. It is purely based on random number generator outside of player control. Most people would probably stop game and start new one, since it is mostly the end of first month. So, it would be great to give player some control back and let him recover from bad RNG by his action.

  5. I think that "healthy" soldiers should be almost immune to psionic attacks. Only weakened soldier should be prone to PP. What is the point of PP, if you can't do anything to prevent it.

    I suggest:

    Consider soldier current state: bravery, injured, hp, overloaded, no friendly unit nearby, saw another soldier/civilian died, corpse is near, enemy units to friendly units ratio, low ammunition, distance to psionic alien, rested (fully rested only, if he wasn't on another mission in last X days)

    Some resistance training would be nice. It could be really expensive and long. Maybe 5-20% resistance for 50-500K, one or two months long. This training or some device could also provide some hint where psionic alien is. Something like area, distance or direction.

    Add another attack type to psionic alien for weakening soldier first. Soldier should be hit several times with this attack to be prone to other attacks.

    Chris - I think it should be related tho crouched grenade bug. I had a line of 3 soldiers and normally the AI in that situation tosses a grenade. Unfortunately I had a suppressed alien so he was crouched. Even after suppression aliens have enough TU to throw a grenade.

    The result was a freeze - the camera was locked on that alien.

    This seems to be correct. Adding save.
