  1. Recruiting them into the Xenonauts wouldn't be possible, and I'd rather not have that in the game even if it were.

I mean, this guy's a loner, a legend. He's like the Mysterious Stranger from Fallout; he goes and comes as he pleases, but when he does come he wastes whatever you're fighting.

There are blond blue checkered shirted sprites already there. With a shotgun, I believe.

    1) I like the idea of the random badass, but for any country he appears in, he should always be the same guy.

    2) Definitely no recruiting him. That just sounds cheap.

    3) He should have the "Guille" haircut if he's American.

  2. for that to work you would have to uninstall and reinstall the game...just because you opt out, the experimental load is already loaded on your pc...in effect you did nothing but start the same game engine over and over

Well, the UI changed depending on which one I played as well as it would load the corresponding save file. Other game mechanics also changed. Regardless, I wiped everything and started in experimental just to be sure nothing would be mixed up.

  3. You can already do that, just remember to add the file names to the appropriate category in sounds.xml or sounds_gc.xml (if ground combat) and the game will shuffle around including your custom audio tracks

Yes, and I have done that. And I've even discovered that there are multiple sounds for certain music areas.

Thing I'd like to see though, is a larger list of sounds to call on as well as having the game randomly select a sound from the set after one song ends. It could be that it already randomly selects from the set when a song ends, but the set is small. I know I ran a mission with my changed sound set and heard the same song repeatedly (fortunately, it was long and just ambience). If there were a larger list that was randomly selected anytime one song finished, people could have a nice randomized soundtrack for any situation.

  4. I just messed around with changing the music in the game. Unfortunately there is only one .ogg file per situation in game. IE: only one file for ground combat, night combat, geoscape, etc.

It would be really cool if you wrote it so that the game would call on a short list of random soundtracks whenever a track ends.

For example, in daytime ground combat, it calls up Ground Combat 1 only. If it could be changed to randomly select from a series of "Ground Combat #" files, that would be awesome.

It wouldn't matter if all of the files were the same one right now because the user could insert various .ogg files in place of the randomly called file.

Basically, it allows a player to insert their own soundtrack into the game as long as they can convert files to .ogg files.

  5. Here is the changed sound folder. Just replace Xenonauts>assets>sound with this folder. Always make a backup copy of your original folder.

    Changed sounds:

    geomusic

    geomusic2

    Ground Combat 1

    mainmenumusic

    Night Combat 1

Edit: I realized this link only gives individual songs, so you will have to replace the changed ones individually.

  6. Hello, fellow 'nauts. I know Chris and his team have limited copyright powers, so I'm piecing together a little mood music "mod". For those of you who already have been doing this, I suggest you try this one out for yourself.

This is mood music (no lyrics) that I think emphasizes the mood of the game.

It will feature music by Two Steps From Hell and Evil Cult (the browser game).

I have confirmed that my method works and does not harm game files and all I have to do is change some file formats and names and will have it up on here in the next couple of hours.

Putting the music in the game will be easy as drag and drop.

  7. I have tried downloading from Desura but cant even install Desura on Mac (it seems). Also, cant find the game on Humble Store either.

    Help would be appreciated.

Steps to get Desura for the Mac!

1.Download and install the latest version of Wineskin.

    2. Download Desura for mac and install it, using Wineskin don't click convert to OS x Application just Run in a random preferences

    3. Do the same thing for Desura.exe.

    4. Log in with your Modbb account and Poof!

  8. I got this on Steam and, unfortunately (or fortunately for me and the career of this game), had no problems installing. PC, of course. I found this on steam forums for a different game (but same problem).

    Also, maybe a simpler fix:

In the Steam folder following the path I mentioned there is a file called " ClientRegistry.blob"

Delete this file and this file only. Restart Steam. This should fix it.

Hope you enjoy the game as much as I am!

  9. I am having trouble following what exactly it is your are doing - but it sounds like you are trying to use saved games from the standard branch in the experimental branch and vice versa? This will always be massively unstable, you just can't mix and match them - if I'm wrong could you please explain a bit more clearly what you are doing?

Well, I was trying various things. No, I was not mixing saves. Sometimes I would run the game in experimental and sometimes in stable. In either case, the game would freeze when I killed the last alien on a combat map. The only way to close the game afterwards is to sign out of windows.

However, I figured out that turning of stat tracking fixes this. I've been able to play to my hearts content (with rare exceptions) since I disabled that.

  10. I just watched this and one thing that stuck out to me is how they point out that in both games you are constantly making sacrifices and trade-offs and you often do not know if that one decision will destroy everything you've built up or keep you alive for another month. Something I think Xenonauts has pulled off quite well as far as I'm concerned.

  11. Did anything specific happen during the alien turn that you can remember just before the crash? Any idea which UFO type the mission was based on?

It was the Caesen, very small ufo. It was roughly ufo 34 to give you an idea of how far into the game. I took my usual load of 'nauts. I'm not certain, but it may have actually been the first desert map that I fought on. I killed two aliens. It was night. They were all near the chinook at this point. One was just out of sight and it had just gone to the alien turn - looked like the one just out of range/sight was going to do something and it crashed. That's pretty much everything I can remember.

  12. So this game is totally awesome now that i fixed my freeze/crash bugs. First time on a terror mission and in an alien base - I got stomped. Actually, retreated.

Anyway, I don't think these are new bugs, but ran into two things:

Went to second door on alien base, opened it, saw what was waiting for me, retreated behind first door and closed it. I could still see the alien movement through the door.

Also, on a a regular combat map, I saw a Seb standing on a pallet of junk. I think it was some kind of compound map where there's barrels and pallets with stuff piled on them. Anyway, the Seb was occupying the same square as the pallet. He's dead now, just in case you were wondering.

  13. I thought it would be nice to have some screenshots from the game - especially funny ones.

(If this is a little too edgy, I apologize, it's just a joke and the game happen to play out this way - it is not a mod, bug, or game mechanic, or meant to express the opinions of anyone).

Affirmative action fail in the Xenonauts project:

  14. When I killed the last alien in a light scout with a pistol from my shield man, the game froze, and while I waited for the next screen to come, it never came because the game was not responding (Cntr-alt-del said so).

Okay, I think I found a fix. This doesn't seem to work in the normal game, so you have to enable the experimental beta first. If you don't know how to do that, let me know.

Once you're in beta (and I prefer the UI there anyway), go to the executable file and set it to run as admin and win xp sp 3.

If you're not sure how to do all that, let me know and I'll give you a step by step process.

I ran a mission like this and it didn't freeze on me. We'll see if that remains the case.
