The thing that I can't understand is when I have a unit spot a alien you can't actually see the alien. He is hidden by the FOW. This seems a bit do-lally.

Drives me mad this FOW crap.
Not only that I have hunted extensively over my life and could hit my targets one handed with the rifle better than this B...S..t:mad:
What also could be concerning is turning new people coming in to the game away.

I dont like how fow looks. the diagonal tiles bother me. I can see inside the corvette through the door, but the aliens need to open it in order to fire.
I just lost a soldier 12 clicks away by alien firing angular from behind corvette main door.

I have to say though that crash bugs don't bother me that much, but things that ruin gameplay (like aliens having eagle sight) makes me not want to play the game. the whole thing stops being fun, so i don't play it which means i don't find more bugs to report.
I think all in all gameplay issues are more important than crashes if the crashes can be somehow avoided

if aliens see thru objects that's fine (as long as the stupid bastards stop trying to fire thru them
hell these aliens are a challenge but that's ok
real life sensibility is always the aim
I would not send blind soldiers to defend our planet
Having said that we are still aware that this game is still in developing
we must be patient
Still have crash when craft is at back in fog of war when last alien is inside banging away.
Never happens when craft is visible
Progress is impressive and final version should be great

I know it's a long shot, but forced AA from your control panel can cause such effects, or even the mode that it's set in.
I also noticed in v.17 AA was causing some problems so turned it off and problems gone.
Other alterations were being made by Chris so I was never completely sure.

It's hard to tell with the AI not being finished, but I've had groups of Sebillians sit behind walls in landing ship missions killing everything that strays near.
Idea: Capture an alien, tie it up and frog march out in front. Let it be the first one to get taken out.

Yeah, shooting at point blank range, missing most of your shots and having them go perpendicular makes very little sense. But that has little to do with A.I. I reckon
Sometimes I wonder what the reality base line is for our soldiers beginning.
For me these soldiers are the best the world has.ie SAS-NAVY SEALS-COMMANDO etc.
When it is indicated they are green I don't auto think they just arrived from school.
I think they are only green because they need to retrain and familiarise with a new enemy and tech standards.
I do NOT think an SAS soldier would miss at 10 metres or point blank very often.
Penalties for learning need to come from another area.
Also I went face to face with an SAS Sgt Major Training.
I can tell you standing in the chopper and telling greenest troops to run out first would take a lot of guts.
Could you order that in the real world ?

It does go to show what a monumental accomplishment XCOM was back in the day -the amount of coding it takes to recreate it.
Exactly. the more times I replay the original I cant help thinking how great a game (Julian was it not)would have made with todays tech advances. Cheers Pete

I'm sorry, but it didn't solve the problem for me.
First mission - ?desert base? - after the misison the game crashes while loading geoscape.
I'm using Desura autoupdate.
Before autoupdate no crashing after mission.When geoscape came on was dark with only base and craft icons and nothing moving exept circles around craft which returned to base.I then clicked base button which created runtime error crash.I then restarted on latest autosave which brought up normal geoscape and waited for craft to return to base again.This happened after every mission.Since autoupdate the geoscape is no longer a problem.But I now have occasional crash after mission end.
I realise Chris and team are flatout working on all aspects of development.
When I started playing game v.17.52 reaction fire was happening.For me priorities are in order of importance=Reaction skills,Accuracy skills,Backing eachother up always.I do not like losing castles.I consider my soldiers to be castles.

Desura working great,fast ,efficient.
As before small scout missions ok.
As before after a larger scout mission a crash in geoscape.
But only when any ship arriving back at base.
Mouse icon & music ok, but geoscape just locksup.

I run all my games 1680-1050 to fit cheap chinese 42'' tv
500 series nvidia boosted 8gig processor & ram

I can confirm this also, just had a crash where a machinegunner hit a fence in a desert map.
uninstalled version 17.1 & installed 17.5 (OK)
also bullets hittng fences crashed game
scout car thru fences-bales etc crashed game
removed antialiasing fixed problem
4 alien small scout recoveries OK
but after every mission geoscape crashed
just reloaded last autosave & was OK
Shot down larger scout OK
Chinook to recvery site & game crashed as screen was loading
Looks Great though CHEERS
