  1. The point of that objective is so you can't get stuck spending dozens of turns hunting for one alien hiding in a closet out on the map somewhere, which isn't fun. Currently the aliens won't try to retake their ship, it should be more interesting once the AI is upgraded so they return to try to retake the ship.

The maps aren't really that big that you can't easily find them all. That's how I play all the time, I don't sit in the UFO. And if you turn it around then, you want enhanced AI so that they defend the UFO. Sounds like you want to turn it into a Tower defense scenario. Not what I find fun either.

The aliens should communicate and react to what they find out. If they spot you, they should call in their friends. Defending a crashed UFO really isn't the best survival strategy. It's like telling a shot down airforce pilot to find his shot down aircraft, and wait by it until picked up.

They know you're coming because you don't miss a Chinook approaching, they're not exactly quiet. They should lay in ambush.

So yes, I STILL believe a discovered map is the best scenario, with a FoW. What needs some work is the AI, and perhaps more cover on the maps that aliens and you can use.

  2. I think the win if you sit in the UFO for 5 turns is a bad winning condition though. Just because you sit in it doesn't mean the aliens are going to go away. You will not be able to haul it out of there until you get rid of the aliens. So I really think that the mission should be to kill all aliens. That's a kill and gather resources mission. Then there could be other missions where other win conditions could apply.

But if I can always win by sitting in the UFO, then that is what everyone would do. Keep the team together, don't bother with civilians, just stay close, find the UFO, and squat in it.

    Doesn't sound so fun anymore.

  3. You do not want to go into realism here. It quickly becomes a circular debate. Yes I am bad person because I called person who does not want to look for ufo lazy. Sorry to offend but I really ment to offend. I ges this forum can be to serious for me :)

In other news I think its safe to say this conversation has reached the end.

There are many reasons why a discovered map is useful. You don't continuously keep running into what turned out to be a map border. You don't waste turns just to wait for those guys to catch up that happened to "explore" in the wrong direction. Why would I want to look for the UFO when it's the aliens I should be searching for? Clearly, coming in from the air, I'd have a pretty freaking solid idea where it crash landed, even the pilots could tell us "guys, it's over there". What I don't have a solid idea about is where the aliens scurried off to, and where they might lay in ambush for me.

Yeah, call me lazy for not wanting to run around in a black map even in broad daylight. That only speaks for your own definition of being lazy.

  4. What I have a bit of a problem with is the Fog of War, you don't even know the rough outline of the area you're about to attack even though you must have gotten a pretty awesome aerial view of it as you are approaching the area.

So how about that outside missions already give you the map discovered, but greyed out to indicate you don't know where the aliens are. And as you move around you get a clear view just as normal, the only difference being you already know the terrain. You would still have to discover what it looks like inside buildings because you wouldn't see that coming in with the dropship.

  5. Burst fire, forgot to add that. And even not using bursts, the sniper rifle has a scope which makes it way harder to keep up with a moving target than a assault rifle without one.

Range, the maps aren't even large enough that you couldn't hit with any rifle. When I was in the army we shot at half-targets at 400m without a scope and it was fine. Now a sniper rifle would be more precise, but as for range, they both can do it.

  6. What I would like the most would be that if the alien is running, you're probably not gonna hit with the sniper rifle. But if the alien sat still and perhaps in cover, that sniper would hit when the assault rifles would have less of a chance.

Assault rifles, on the other hand, should have an easier time to hit something that is moving. But I'm dreaming :) I'd like it though!
