Given that we mapped the peridic table of elements and that there isn't unobtanium out there, I don't see the aliens coming up with magical armor realisticly.
here's a hint alloys....
make a alloy in zero g, atoms will react differently, in theory you could combine steel with aluminium, and now have a aluminium light material with the properties of steel, you name it they mix it, the sky is the limit!
just because we know the table it does not mean we now know all the recipes you can make with it
Also tanks these days have reactive armor, meaning they can withstand some rocket launcher weapons, a panzer 4 could not, with the same or thinner armor

If the crash is out of reach, let them hire some jets to reach, parachute out, as it has been stated before, add in jean lucs idea about cheaper bases, so if they para out you will have to make a base nearby to collect them again, it will also encourage people to make more bases, and the ball is rolling:)
A dirt track to land on, quickly erected barrack, a mobile radar installation as the first cheap start of a new base
Also stellars idea seems the best to train new rookies. the bell curve

i had that in 1 mission, i saved and loaded it again, and got it completed as no survived alien

as the thread says, once you have returned or fly straight to another crash site wounded soldiers are instant healed, and dont need the sickbay

ground combat works, and desura had no trouble this time with updating it went very smooth

first time you click a unit it froze up with a memory dump

Sitting with the newest pcgamer, and it has a nice article about sales on steam, sadly i cant find a link for it, but the tldr version is, when sales are on they sell alot of copies cheap but in the period after the sale they still keep selling, it is a good food for thoughts, and Ea doesnt like it, since they are "selling out"
So selling your game cheap can be better than selling your game very expensively
