You are correct it is subjective and a point of view, my statement was a generalised comment of my impressions of how uninspired the is art and somewhat dated looking graphics. To explain why I feel it the graphics look dated is hard to describe but put simply to me the graphics are generic and sanitised, could also be due to my work and other games I have been spoiled graphically.

A bit late but limited number of troops to other said features and mechanics for me points to casual console kiddy design with hand holding, a cancer which is hurting gaming as a whole. It is like political correctness no one can be offended or excluded but in this case, no skill curves, no emergent game play, no difficulty curves.
Now for something more current, judging from the screenshots the graphics and art look out of date and uninspired, seen better from a significantly smaller and relatively unknown team.

I am not sure how the engine is designed but something akin to a mod launcher within game to handle loading alternative scripts and assets, it shouldn't cause any issues with steam since core files wouldn't be overwritten or modified .

2k Marin/Irrational games screwed over an existing franchise then their own with no idea with what they are doing in terms of game design, story and pacing. All hype no substance is their games, I have personal experience with a couple of devs when they put a good franchise into the ground for poor game design the poured concrete over the grave with their weak excuses.

Camel == increased supply capacity.
Hannibal == boarding or escape pod.
Sempre Fi == More crew I assume to make immune to boarding actions
Reflex Furnace == Faster rate of fire or greater engine speed
Caravan == More crew.
Aux Reactor == similar to reflex furnace
Thats what I have worked out by trial and error. I know about the auto saves but for me when you have almost every turn after x turns the game crashes it becomes counter productive.

I like the new CTD issue after combat anything popup like research complete or new colony kills the game. It is a good game but it has incredibly poor design decisions too many clicks to do frequent tasks. Its real flaw is that the devs were being too ambitious for the resources they had at hand.

If I could show some of the work from my place of work I would but due to legal reason I can't, for existing games would need to go back and remember when I am able to remember them I will PM them to you. I hope you are aware there is no major difference between an engine for FPS or Strat/RTS just the game centric code will be different.
