Oh, me too. I cant wait to play it. I'm just somewhat less enthused than I was a week ago, when I though I could build my base where I liked, and could look where I wanted.
That said, it's still firmly on my pre-order list. I just hope the issues above get fixed over time.

After playing the Demo, I recind my initial statement. The lack of controle the player has over camera movement and base placement makes me doubt the replayability of Xcom.....
-
Demo was good, and the game looks fun. However, I have 2 very seriose complaints that I hope with be patched in or modded.
1.) Camera control. The game is 3d capable, FFS let me chose where I look.
2.) Base placement. Jake said in the 1hour livestream you can place the base "anywhere". Choseing from 5 preset locations is not anywhere. I want to be able to put my base in Antarctica, Australia, or Sparta.

^THIS. Btw, played for 20 minutes, really addicting but too easy (and I sincerly hated first one and half missions at the beginning, let me move my troops wherever I want!)
Agreed. I loved playing most of the 2nd mission, but I had to unistall the demo. Being ordered where to order my troops (and getting them killed) was not good for my blood pressure.

I hate not having full camera control. The game is fully 3d capable, why the frak cant I move my camera 2 degrees to the left.
*grumblegrumblegrumble*

The demo was ok. The game seems fun, but I felt very very frustrated by the control interface. Why can't I rotate my camera to custom angles of view, instead of the pre-set 4. Why can't i zoom further back. The UI seems a but..... clunky to mee to.
As for positioning the base, this is assumed to be the Tutorial, so I think it's confirmed you can place the base anywhere in the actual game. (tutorial is skipable, btw).
Overall, the game looks good. Hopefully the controle interface will be improved either with patches or through mods. I think this is it's biggest stumbling block at this stage.

Hey Guys,
You seen this project? It looks like a buckeloads of fun. The Ship designer is available online, as an alpha, and it's really absorbing. I've already spent more time desiging ship in this alpha (which is a segment of 1/4 of the planned game) than I did playing most modern AAA gmaes.

Yay, A 31-35 option!
-
Wow... that poll fails hard.
Where's the 30-35 group. And why is 40 there twice?
-
I heard the quests were all the same. Go to this junkyard. Kill this dude. Take his stuff.
-
I've never played the first one. The second one doesn't look all that interesting to me.
-
Op, If the Beta starts in November as hopped, we probably wont see the game till late Q1. But that's suposition, dont get your hopes up.
-
Exactly.
Xenonauts is like £20 ( I think.... I preorded a long time ago), and you can Xcom on GMG for £24.
Get both! It's a good year to TBS.

I'm so excited for this game. All I've seen and read up until now have only made me want to play it more. I was very cautious in the beginning, but Solomon's team have really done their best to keep it solid.
Yeah, me too. I took no more than a passing interest in it, my closest watch was in fact this thread for information on it. Then RPS posted a link to this vid:

After seeing actual gameplay, I got bitten by the hype bug, in a big way. I've preordered.

EDIT: Protip for beating the last boss: Take out it's missile launcher (the first on the right side, from the center) first. Get it out of the picture, and almost anything he throws at you in any phase is tankable with 4 points of shields (aside from the Laserburst flurry in phase 3, but if you have a cloak you can always dodge that).
You can target individual weapons? I've always just focused on dropping their weapons & shields rooms.

Dunno, I've yet to play Xcom, although I'm very keen to do so.
At the end of the day, it all comes down to user preferance. As much as I love the old Xcom, I like where the new one is going, and we get Xenonauts (the Xcom HD remake, essentially).
I personally think Xcom will be a tad better (I really like the "fluidic" feel of the combat in Xcom) than Xenonauts. But given the development budgets for the 2 titles, that's hardly an insult to Xenonauts.

How far has anyone got? I got to the last sector, and got whiped out. I was a very sad panda.
-
Yeah, what a perfect little gem.
i can't wait for star command.
-
Just watch out for the LadieBoys....
-
Pity, this game looks like it could have been great with a few changes.
1.) Didtch the AlwaysOnline crap
2.) Include a Single player campaign,
3.) Write even a marginally interesting strory to link the misions together (See fallout tactics)
4.) Profit.

Greece is just ripe for the picking, so many up and coming countries would love to get their hands on all that wealth.
What you did there..... I see it.

Bwhahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!

Hey Guys,
I've just finished the first episode, and I have to say.... Wow!!!!
This game is amazing, anyone who's ever even marginally enjoyed a space sim, and like BSG, get to it. Playing this is amazing. The first few missions take place with an alternate view of the attack on the 12 colonies. It really does well to convey a sense of overwhelming loss and being backed into a coner.
Trust me guys, dont miss out on this!

True, but you can put you base in London, or Paris, or Warsaw, or Amserdam, or Berlin, or Rome, or Athens, or Istambul, or Madrid, or Luxemborg, or Malta, or Dublin, or Aberdeen or just about ANYWHERE in europe.
In Xcom EU, you can put the base in (what looks to be) Warsaw, in Europe.
