I believe I have a fix for this issue.
The problem seems to be a typo in assets\units\alien\caesan\noncombatant\weapon.Alie nPlasmaPistol\soldier_spectre.xml
Replace caesan/weapon with caesan/noncombatant/weapon and the game is able to find the right animation. This also seems to fix the invisible alien bug for me - perhaps they are the same issue.

There is one solider behind the door outside the ufo, an alien just inside the door. Walk the solider two squares into the ufo, then back outside the door and then back inside two squares. This causes a reaction fire crash for me each time.

I get the same issue.
I can overwrite a save by double clicking on it in the menu however, the "save" button is greyed out until I type in the save name box (change the name etc)

Hi Guys,
A quick hello - I pre-ordered at v8.9 and kept quiet till v9. Was a big fan the x-com series of games and really looking forward to this one.

Just a small suggestion about the air combat - I was holding off till v9 to mention this in cash it was implemented
It would be a "nice to have" if the interceptor the alien craft targeted was random. At the moment they always go for place number one which makes the tactics pretty simple for air combat.
Should be a small change to make it random - would add to the suspense a little when starting air combat?

Found a bug where I could see an alien through a closed door - this might be related to the same bug as the soliders walking through walls?
In the screen shot the alien is behind door number one, I can't open the door.
I also got the reaction fire "freeze" bug when I went around to the other door and shot the alien.

Same situation for me.
Alien was outside scout ship (exit out of rear door and turn right). Shot alien, alien reaction fire game freezes. Animations are playing on map (smoke) but thats it can't move the map or take any action. Don't have a save game near the crash.

Just had a situation in a farm tiled ground combat where an alien was inside a building (barn). A unit could see it through the double doors but I could not target it as I hadn't entered the building so that the game would lift roof.
So the Alien could shoot at me but I couldn't shoot back.
Alternativily I may just not of placed the cursor in the correct spot :-)
Might be a good idea for when you click on the red alien head which appears when you can see an alien as well as centering the screen the game places the cursor over the unit too?
