  1. Hello All,

I am fairly new to the game of Xenonauts and the community in general, but I wanted to throw out my idea for the game and to see if such an addition is possible. I have no experience in modding myself, but if anyone wants to use this idea, I won't stop you.

My idea would be to give the Xenonauts an attack dog. Something like a German Shepard K-9 unit, but trained to combat aliens.

The dog would be unable to use ranged weapons (obviously), and it would be even flimsier than the human soldiers, but it would make up for it by:

    • Being able to quickly scout out the map. (Think movement ranges on par with the Reaper Aliens)

•Being relatively hard to hit because of its small frame. (Maybe a permanent bonus equivalent to crouching)

•Be capable of carrying things (like med packs or ammo) to help keep the Xenonauts supplied on the ground.

•If need be, it can attack enemy units. Nothing as damaging as a stun baton or other melee weapon, but a series of rapid bite (melee) attacks could help keep an alien occupied if one of your soldiers was caught out in the open.

    * Real world attack dogs are trained to subdue attackers, so maybe a dog attacking an alien would result in immediate suppression (or a very high chance of it)*

Maybe later technological advances would allow the Xenonauts to build dog shaped armor for increased protection and/or add weapon hard points with computer controlled guns that would allow Scooby to shoot back at the alien invaders.

Would something like that be possible?

  2. No trouble, its an honest question :)

Check under Manufacture --> Ammunition. They kits should be towards the bottom if you scroll down. IF you still cant find them, take a screenshot and PM me, you might have installed the mod incorrectly.

They only repair combat shields and most melee weapons. They are kind of like "ammo" for shields/swords. They won't work on guns...But to use it, put your melee weapon/shield in your primary hand slot (left hand on the GUI) in combat, then you can either use the quick-reload button or drag-and-drop the wrench onto the item to repair. Has to be on the main hand slot. I know, its annoying, but only way it works.

I have started a new game and checked under the workshop and the research tab, but I still don't see anything dealing with manufacture -> ammunition.

I did do as you suggested by equipping the shield in the left hand and it works now, thanks for the help.

  3. Sorry for the rather noobish questions I am about to ask but I have been playing xenophobia (love it btw) and I am about half way through the first month.... and how do I buy/build more ammo/medpacks/rockets/refill kits etc?

I don't see an option for it in the Workshop screen, or in the Storeroom screen, and I do not see any ammo based research in the research screen. I probably have the option staring me in the face, but I figured that I would ask the community for assistance.

The second noob question I have is about the repair kits. I have them in my shield soldier's inventory but when I try to equip them I am unable to repair damage. I replace my soldier's gun for the repair kit if that makes any difference. How do I repair on the field?

  4. How feasible would it be to add in a new unit to assist with ground operations?

I have been enjoying the mod, but I noticed that the Vipers' and Gar ghouls' extremely high movement rate makes scouting nearly impossible during the beginning of the game. Maybe its just because I am still getting the hang of things, but most of the time I have to sit and wait for them to come to me.

One thought I had that could help alleviate this issue (again if adding a new unit would be within the realms of possibility), as well as opening up some fun new strategies would be to give the Xenonauts an attack dog. Something like a German Shepard K-9 unit, but trained to combat aliens.

The dog would be unable to use ranged weapons (obviously), and it would be even flimsier than the human soldiers, but it would make up for it by:

    • Being able to quickly scout out the map.

•Being relatively hard to hit because of its small frame.

•Be capable of carrying things (like med packs or ammo) to help keep the Xenonauts supplied on the ground.

•If need be, it can attack enemy units. Nothing as damaging as a viper, but a series of rapid bite (melee) attacks could help keep an alien occupied if one of your soldiers was caught out in the open.

Maybe later technological advances would allow the Xenonauts to build dog shaped armor and/or add weapon hard points with computer controlled guns that would allow Scooby to shoot back at the alien invaders. This could culminate (maybe) with the Xenonauts being able to capture and 'train' (see control) the basic viper aliens to use as attack dogs.

Would something like that be possible?
