Psi attacks should deplete bravery bar, and have a full effect when bar is getting low, first panic or berserk become possible, at depleted bar soldier become vulnerable to full mind control. Thus goal is achieved - high bravery confers good defense against psi attacks, but soldier is still vulnerable if you don't remove them from the psion attack range.

Extraterrestrials had psionic attacks do damage to the moral bar, when it reaches 0, further attacks are given a 100% chance to hit.

This allows you to plan an advancement strategy to reach the alien before time runs out.

That game has 2 levels of psionic protection item that reduce the damage taken as well.
