V20 Stable Candidate 4 Released!

Recommended Posts

As there are still bugs in our "reverted" version (Candidate 3), we're trying a new tack. This is Candidate 2 with the loading screen stripped out and some new bugs fixed:

- There should no longer be a CTD when you open the inventory system

- Soldiers will no longer be Wounded on arriving at base

- Removal of loading screen should remove the CTD on loading people had previously, plus speed up mission load times.

Let us know if you find bugs in the game as we would *really* like to have V20 Stable released soon so we can all go back to enjoying the festive season!

The initial screen showing mission objectives and how badly the UFO is damaged is now missing completely. Is this intentional?

Otherwise I have yet to encounter a crash, groundcombat starts as quickly as it used to, and opening a soldiers inventory causes no problems for me.

Thank you guys for a playable and so far stable (knock on wood here) version to play over the holidays and distract me from a christmas spend alone ;)

Merry Christmas to the team and everyone here on the forum!

Edit: I just realized that no autosave is created at the beginning of ground combat. No big deal for me, but remember to save manually in case you screw up the mission guys.

Edit 2: I may have been too quick to judge. The autosave function doesn't work at all, and when I try to save manually after completing a mission the game CTDs. The savefile IS created, but trying to load it leads to a CTD. I have not found a workaround for this, every time I try to save after completing my first mission the game crashes.

Apart from this no initial LOS for soldiers after entering ground combat I have NO issues as yet. Loading and saving working fine here.

Thank you for getting this build to us, I thought you had all gone home for Christmas. :)

Update: Yep, just tested save from right after combat, and loaded up no problem.

i found a strange bug:

in a base invasion mission all my soldier which should drop unconsious (stun grenade) just explode (body splatter animation) and all the weapons on ground are destroyed. in normal tactical missions it worked fine.

I had a flashbang kill a alien, which at the time I thought strange.

hello,

I meet the same ctd when loading a combat save during my first play with the last build. But i meet another try and restarting a new ground mission. When i save a combat game without taking an alien corpse on the ground i can reload the game without any problem, but each time i take a dead alien corpse then saving and reload the game, i meet a CTD. hope this help. btw thanks for your great game.

For me the problem is not connected to the desecration of alien corpses ;)

As a matter of fact nothing out of the ordinary happened in the combat missions, i did not try anything new (like picking up corpses or alien weapons), nor did any of my xenonauts get injured.

The game merely crashes every time I try to save after the first ground mission (chinook in the air or landed, new save or overwriting existing one, clicking through the base or saving right after the mission, it all doesn't matter, the game inevitably crashes).

Does the game create autosaves for everyone else? or is it unique for me that none are created, neither at the beginning nor the end of a mission.

Reloading a combat save, after taking an alien...sorry...or any objects its not possible. BTW each time i try to save the game after finishing the 2nd ground mission, the game crashes every time. I have also not any autosaves created after or before a ground mission.

Redwallzyl - is this a new game you've started with this version? Have you got all the way to base assaults in this build?

I can't reproduce the escort fighter bug...tried shooting down a Corvette where I took the escorts out and then came back for the main ship, but it worked fine.

Also, while I can confirm autosaves at the start of combat are not being generated correctly, I'm not getting any further save issues.

Everyone that is getting them:

1) Right click, validate files

2) Start a new game

3) If you get a corrupted save from that game, please post it here so we can look at it

I did all that, verified the integrity of the game cache in steam (that was what you meant, right? I could not find any other way to validate the files), deleted all previous savegames, started a new game.

It went exactly as before, I started the game, did all my usual changes to equipment, build stuff, hired scientists, shot down the first UFO and started the mission.

Tileset was desert/military, the UFO obviously a small scout.

Saving and loading worked perfectly fine.

I killed the last alien, got the debrief, here's a screenshot:

after returning to the geoscape I tried to save the game (as a new file), and it crashed to desktop. i tried again by overwriting a previous file, and it crashed again.

The forum won't allow me to attach the savegames, so I will email them to you Chris.
