What, exactly, does armor do?

Because it sure as hell doesn't seem to reduce incoming damage. It seems to me like it just randomly negates damage entirely. I don't know about you guys, but I'd rather have a flat damage reduction all the time then to just randomly have damage blocked at a seemingly low chance.

It does a flat damage reduction. However, projectiles have up + / - 50% random element in their damage.

And there's also armor degradation, too. Each time it gets hit it becomes less effective.

That was a very high damage roll for the Caesan. Normally, with Wolf armor on they can't one shot you with a rifle. Of course, if you get hit by a full burst it will kill you.

The first armor will keep you somewhat safe from pistol fire. Rifles will still probably kill you.

Yep, with Jackal armor soldiers are usually left with a margin of health left when it comes to rifles. That is if they're experienced and have more than 65 health.
