andyman1971
Hi everyone, I'm a noob to the game and pretty excited by it's potential. But I was wondering if there could be some sort of option to play a one off strategic mission. Giving you the chance to try all the different weapons and armours against your own choice of enemy. It would also help identify bugs and issues with certain combinations and give players a quick fix of extreme violence from time to time. Cheers, Andy. Gorlom
I think debug mode pretty much covers this already. atleast it started Ground missions for me without shooting down any UFOs.

TiLT
Actually, this idea isn't half bad. In the same way that the Total War games have both a campaign mode and single battles, perhaps Xenonauts could have premade battles where you have a specific, predetermined squad with a specific, predetermined loadout trying to get as good a score as possible. It's not something I've ever thought about for the X-Com games before, but now that it's been mentioned, it seems like an "obvious" inclusion. iamkyon
Ah, a skirmish mode of sorts? Its inclusion could be an asset for testing, too.
BigityBalzworth
this isn't a bad idea. You could have premade scenarios, and maybe even some different objectives. Something to challenge yourself when not playing the main game. throw in a scenario builder and you have a fan-made missions available online. some pretty cool ideas. would be a nice bonus, but not as important as the main game
Chris
To an extent, you can already generate these using the levelsetup.xml file in the assets folder. It won't be in the final game by default but it allows you to set the tileset and specific map and the number and type of aliens you're taking on. Whether we formalise it into a proper in-game feature, I'm not sure yet.
andyman1971
Thanks for the response Chris (wow I'm honored!). Unfortunately I have no idea how to use the levelsetup.xml file. That makes me a sad Panda
TiLT
My head is swimming with all the possibilities that would never really work in the campaign game. Imagine stuff like a mission where your squad is vastly outnumbered and outgunned. Your sole objective is to return to your lander with at least 50% of your squad still alive. Or a mission where you're supposed to retrieve a specific object from a UFO and escape safely with the object intact while aliens keep spawning at the edge of the map. Maybe even take it a step further. Imagine a mission where you have to escort a bunch of civilians safely through an alien-infested area. Chris
Thanks for the response Chris (wow I'm honored!). Unfortunately I have no idea how to use the levelsetup.xml file. That makes me a sad Panda I should probably write something up on the wiki. Right now it's not of much use because there's only a single alien race and a single tileset in the game. It'll be much more useful in the beta. In short, though, you just open it up in Wordpad and change the values according to what you want.
