Yes, you need to convert them into .ogg format. I replaced some music and sounds in game already, however if you add in additional tracks you'll need to edit one, possibly two files. It's not a good idea to put a lot of work into adding in new tracks because the sound xml is subject to change. Better to wait until release to make big projects like this. In the mean time you can simply convert your MP3's here: http://audio.online-convert.com/convert-to-ogg After that just rename them to replace one of the four existing tracks. I'd go into more detail but I was going to wait before I started writing a bunch of tutorials.
