Jemar
That was a reasonable question even in original XCOM games. Is it a random case in Xenonauts or not? If random thats a pity idea. I hoped finally aliens may have strategic plan how to win. Than taste of victory as Humans will be much higher. By the way I like that in the 17th of February Aliens begin THIRD attack on my 3rd base. I mean THIRD in February. I like the way they deliver experience to my another kill-them-all-ers team. But why they like 3rd base? The second hits UFOs more often and fly on missions too, but they attacked it only once and long time ago. The attack on primary base happens usually once a month. Not a trouble with plasma rifles. :-)
jazzglands
I think they "scout" it by flying over the base.
thothkins
I'm not sure if there's an increased chance of them spotting your base, if you launch from it while their ships are around. But I generally don't launch form the base when they are right next to it.

captainkrunch96
In the original(xcom ufo defense) there was a random occurrence which sent a group of aliens on a "alien infiltration mission" which would send scouts to find your base. if they were left unhindered they would then send a battleship to commence anattack on your base. these aliens would not remember where you base was if another group was sent on an alien infiltration mission(btw these alien missions would take about a month). there would also be the same aliens on the scout as on the assault. there could also be multiple infiltration missions going on at once:cool:. however that was the original not xenonauts and who knows what happens here. ThunderGr
In the original(xcom ufo defense) there was a random occurrence which sent a group of aliens on a "alien infiltration mission" which would send scouts to find your base. If I recall correctly, they were sending the UFOs to a "Base Attack mission" in order to detect and assault your base. And they did not do so randomly, but based on your success in bringing down UFOs over an area. The "Alien Infiltration mission" was for the aliens to infiltrate the countries and force them to a pact with them, causing them to withdraw from the X-COM project. Sathra
Yeah, 'Retaliation' sequences were triggered by shooting down ships in a region. Its actually the cause of the massive numbers of Large Scouts that a player would shoot down. And since the Retaliation scouts would fly over areas where lots of ufo's had been shot down, then shot down themselves in the same area...well, you could have multiple sequences all searching the same spot. Max_Caine
A base attack mission can happen every wave. As waves occour every 2-3 days, your bases can be hammered pretty unmercifully.
thothkins
Cpt Krunch96: Going to the pub tonight? Sgt thothkins: Nah. Having a night in. Cpt Krunch96: Something good on TV? Sgt thothkins: Nah. Base attack at 20:00. Regular as clockwork.
PerfectDeath
The only base attack I have experienced resulted after I shot down the two escorts, with Condors, the Foxtrots were unavailable since I had just transferred them to other bases while building new ones so I had no way to destroy the landing craft which just followed my condors to my base. The landing craft with its escorts before it started chasing my condors were just randomly touching down and taking off in the areas I normally shoot down UFOs. They likely found the base faster because they followed the condors since it was not originally heading to my base. =\
Xenomorph
Finished the game twice, and never got any of my bases attacked. Maybe i'm NOT missing something
PerfectDeath
You probably shot them down =P, a base attack is an escorted landing ship or something. I normally can't tell them apart from escorted terror missions.
ThunderGr
Just like the original game, it only makes sense to not have your base attacked, ever, if you keep shooting down the UFOs that carry the attack troops.
thothkins
I really start watching the UFO waves for anything that looks like a base attack, and try to take them out before they get close.
Xenomorph
UFO spawn. And it's pointing towards your base. Look at the triangle. Kill it. Then get the others. You can let it get close, and save on fuel.
