Can this game be play on Linux

As Windows is not going to maintain 11, can this game be installed and play on Linux..??

Playing the game on Linux is not officially supported (windows is listed as the only supported platform), but...

I've found it works very well -- playing it through Steam Proton from Ubuntu (24.04.02 LTS release). Valve has put a lot of work into getting games running easily from Linux through Steam Proton & many Windows games "just work".   Goldhawk does look into the odd linux-specific or mac-specific issue that gets reported & so far has tried to fix things that could make the game unplayable - thank you Goldhawk!

 

There are lots of Linux distributions to choose from, if you haven't chosen one, consider Ubuntu -- it is quite common also gets used in businesses (more common distros that get used in business are more likely to "just work" reliably, than some of the nicher ones). The Ubuntu Long Term Support (LTS) releases have less frequent changes, but they're less likely to contain new bugs.

I am playing on linux. I have the gog version of the game and I use lutris to install and run it without problems.
Lutris is a program that manages the environment required to run windows programs on linux, kinda like steam does under the hood. Of course you can also buy the game directly on steam or add it as a non-steam game and leverage its ability to run windows games.

I do not recommend ubuntu since the company that makes it has a history of anti-consumer practices https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/ubuntu-spyware.html.en

I've played X2 on Linux, via Proton, from the earliest builds to release version. No problem, runs very well.

Proton has come very far, these days I would seriously defend the assertion that Linux runs games better than on Windows, if you exclude games that make use of kernel-level drivers for anti-cheat or such.

It may help that X2 is built atop Unity, which is a common game engine, rather than something bespoke. Investing dev effort into improving/maintaining Proton's ability to run Unity-based games may benefit multiple titles.

I also have played Xenonauts 2 on Linux since early versions.

Works pretty well also on Steam Deck, only issue being small body text, which cannot currently be increased.

I play X2 on linux(Pop) with steam proton and I am at the end of my second game. Not a single crash, zero issues at all.

I have found that games on steam just work on linux. Some games, like factorio, actually work better on linux. I think factorio runs something like 20% faster on linux compared to windows.

 

One game I am playing recently, satisfactory, seems to crash once in a while but it only seems to be during multiplayer for some reason. It hasn't been enough for me to look for a solution but it's something to note. Of course when I was playing mech5 one of the people I played with was crashing on windows so I can't say that it's just sometimes some games don't work properly on some computers.
