Description

minor - game pauses for around 30s-60s when attempting to autoresolve 3 gemini with 0 missile ammo vs 1 battleship

 

What Happened

Very late game (day 400 ish), squadron of 3 Gemini were on their way back from shooting down a UFO when they saw a second UFO, a battleship.

I attempted to auto-resolve the air combat, the game appeared to lock up (things were still animating, but it was busy thinking about something), so I hit F11, but after around 30s-60s the game began responding again & reported that the UFO had escaped.

I repeated the same thing (chased down UFO, attempted to autoresolve) and the same thing happened again.

The 3 Gemini had 0 fusion missiles left, I guess the auto-resolve logic isnt able to figure out how to shoot a battleship down with fusion lances only, and gets stuck thinking hard without doing damage until the fight times out? The autoresolve resolves very quickly if they have fusion missile ammo left.

 

suggestion:  If touching the air combat auto resolve logic is a high risk can of worms, maybe could add an "air combat autoresolve progress bar" showing something increasing - say progress toward the fight timing out with the UFO escaping,  if nothing else -  to make it clearer that the game hasn't locked up.

Oh yeah, something definitely isn't going right here. We'll look into it
