Did X2 fix most of the bugginess present in the first game? I'm thinking about picking it up, but worried I'm just going to ragequit after a while like I did the first one due to several obnoxious bugs that made ironman far more frustrating than it should be.

Hello!     I didn't play the first game but have played Xenonauts 2 extensively, through milestone 6 stable, milestone 7 experimental & now the milestone 7 stable full release version.

I'll assume by bugginess you mean high impact stuff like crashes to desktop, softlocks, save game corruption, or scripting being completely broken that would prevent a campaign from being won, not e.g. a fundamental difference in opinion of how ballistic or cover systems should work.

The current milestone 7 stable full release version is pretty stable, i haven't personally hit any high impact bugs & have nearly won the campaign, playing an ironman run.

If you avoid the experimental branch, avoid applying mods, play the common default stable version of the game & you should be OK for an ironman run.

That said, there are still a few reports coming in with crashes to desktop or softlocks in the stable version of the game -- these seem to be mostly when a player does something quite unusual, or in rare situations in tactical combat.  There are also a number of new players who are getting confused by some of the game mechanics (afterburners, UFO delegation), but these are less bugs and more usability issues that could be improved.

I don't think the full release v7 version has yet achieved the level of stability that the prior v6 stable version had (that one was really solid, I played 150 hours of it without ever seeing a major bug) -- but if the developers keep chipping away at the remaining tail of rare high impact issues that players have reported & patching it with hotfixes, then the v7 stable full release version should get there in a few weeks.

If you're not a dedicated ironman-only player, & are a X1 veteran, and are wary about instability potentially derailing your ironman run, one option could be to do your first run without ironman while you're exploring the game and learning the changes that X2 introduces over X1, then do your second run on ironman.   This'd also allow a little more time for post release hotfix patches to land, and in the event you do run into a bug, it's often easier to work around them if you can reload an older save.

Game have been very stable for me in pre release build and release one. So far, not a single crash or something. Encountered only one minor bug.  There were some major problems far back. But team made a hell of job since on fixing everything.
