Chris Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Hello everyone - it's finally happening! Our publisher announced the release date for Xenonauts 2 and unveiled our release date trailer. I've posted the press release below for you guys to read... although there's probably not much new info there if you're a seasoned follower of the game! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- We’re very excited to announce that Xenonauts 2 is leaving Early Access and releasing as 1.0 on April 2, 2026, marking the end of a journey that has seen nearly three years of steady updates and improvements to the game. Here’s our announcement trailer: The Road to 1.0 (and Beyond) Xenonauts 2 has changed a great deal during the Early Access period, with our seven major updates adding: Four new alien races, and five new types of UFO Dozens of new research projects, and the battlefield equipment and aircraft unlocked from them The new Strategic Operations and Supporters systems for the Geoscape Our expanded Cleaner storyline, with three new unique mission types Two new unique story missions set on an alien orbital station A climactic two-part final mission and ending cutscene A complete visual revamp of the air combat minigame (and a tutorial for it!) Strategic UI art that changes and improves as you progress through the game Many, many new maps (there’s now 180+ in the game) Lots of quality of life, balance and performance improvements Although reaching 1.0 is a major milestone, it doesn’t mean our work is done – we’re planning to continue patching and improving the game after the launch (and create mod tools). The feedback and advice we’ve received from the community during the Early Access period has been hugely important in making Xenonauts 2 the game it has become, and we want to thank everyone who has supported us on this journey. 7
Alienkiller Posted March 12 Posted March 12 Yeah, let´s hope for a great Launch. I personaly feel after the last years with the Beta- and some Milestone-Testings that we have made an great Game in an new X-COM-Style. I loved the old X-COM-Series (esp. the first 2 Games which play on Earth) and I hope Xenonauts 2 gives now the great Feeling from old X-COM back. I personaly hope, that the Devs will bring in more cool Content / Features in with DLCs about the Fact, that it get translated in German and other Languages. The Game have a lot of Potential like the old X-COM-Series and the new XCOM-Series. 1
juslovemusic Posted March 28 Posted March 28 Fantastic! Watching you folks evolve this game to where it is now after starting with some of the early builds has been a pleasure.
ooey Posted May 5 Posted May 5 Chris, does release 1.0 mean that the game is basically finished and we can start playing with any tweaking meaning that we don't have to restart a game we are already playing through now? Or should we wait a bit more if we don't want to do this?
KOKON Posted May 6 Posted May 6 @ooey i think it could be good to know what version you are playing. Like if you play 5.* and then oh no. Its not compatible!

Yeah, we won't be breaking save games again unless there's a large post-release patch for some reason (maybe if we do a free update to accompany some DLC or something). But that won't be happening for a while, if ever.
ooey Posted May 6 Posted May 6 (edited) Thanks to you both. I finally get to start playing it properly! Been waiting years to do so. I'll be playing the 1.0 release. Also glad you finally got to the end Chris. I knew you wouldn't let us down because Xen1 was so good. Bet you feel a big weight lifted off your shoulders! Roll on your next high quality product. Personally I think you'd do a great job of updating something like Star Wars: Supremacy if you could somehow get the licence. That was a great strategy game, but the real time combat left a little to be desired. If you like strategy games and you've never played it, look it up. It's one of the most authentic Star Wars lore games ever. I miss these sort of games now... Sometimes, as with Xen, it's a good idea to look back to the past and maybe resurrect something that was a good idea at the time, but just wasn't implemented properly or the machines weren't powerful enough to do so. One game springs to mind - Red Arrows simulator on the C64. There may be a flight formation sim on the market somewhere now, but the poor old c64 just couldn't handle 9 Hawks in formation (the frame rate was about 2fps). Edited May 6 by ooey
eobet Posted May 13 Posted May 13 OMG, I made the exact same mistake a second time! Waited until the 1.0 release to play, and what is the first thing I notice? Still no middle mouse scrolling of the view, and certain actions still don't have buttons and can only be done with keyboard shortcuts! Oh, well. Maybe third time's the charm and I can wait for Xenonauts 3? EDIT: Boo, no emojis allowed. People are going to think I'm angry again.

Yeah, unfortunately we feedback is usually more valuable during development when we have time to implement it, it's usually pretty mad before and after a full release. But the MMB click and drag is an interesting suggestion, might be a simple thing to implement and we don't currently use MMB click and hold for anything. I'll ask the coders. If it's a 10-20 min thing maybe we'll implement it.
Dren608 Posted yesterday at 06:18 AM Posted yesterday at 06:18 AM OK I know it will probably never happen but... How a bout a DLC pre-order or some such thing for: 1. I want the engineers to have chief that can harass the scientists from time to time, just a few working man quips about the Researches design flaws and how the engineers have to "fix" things (justifying us having to spend $, Resources and time" to "Correct" certain research deficiencies...) 2. Could we start a funding drive to get 2 (or 3 if you want the engineers to have a voice) actors to do a voice over just for the Mission quotes etc. not the readouts of Tech, but like when the Ops officer and Chief scientist have types out dialogs. (Heck I would have done it back in the day, for the Scientist, for my name in the credits and a few cases of Coke Zero). But I think a more professional voice would sound so much better for those two. Nothing else special just to hear a couple of voices to back up our introduction voice. I can dream... who knows maybe I or someone can figure out a way to mod these things in...
