Description

cleaner base assault - when previewing attack on sentry gun, targeting reticle is displayed far away, and moves farther and farther each time the game menu is opened and closed!

 

What Happened

During cleaner base assault mission, when previewing attack on the second sentry gun encountered (same issue did not manifest for first sentry gun), when hovering mouse over the sentry gun to preview an attack, the targeting reticle does not display in the correct position.  The reticle displays in the correct position when previewing an attack other enemies. The targeting reticle is visible far to the top right after zooming out to max zoom distance!

Entertainingly, after pressing escape to open the game menu, and then closing the game menu, the targeting reticle moves even further away, and is barely visible at max zoom & panning the camera to the max amount:

 

After opening and closing the game menu a 2nd time, now the targeting reticle cannot be seen anywhere - presumably it is now further up & to the right, outside of max camera pan range.

 

What I Expected To Happen

Targeting reticle is displayed over sentry gun's tile when hovering mouse to preview attack.

Despite the advanced ECM capabilities of these cleaner sentry guns interfering with the commander's targeting & telemetry feed, our brave xenonauts can still attack and destroy them.

 

During the same mission (without saving/loading), when I encountered a 3rd sentry gun, the same issue manifested.

 

Curiously, when one of my soldiers missed a ~70% shot with a cleaner magnetic rifle to target this 3rd sentry gun, the trajectory of the bullet was nearly opposite the direction the gun was pointing (nearly 180 degree spray).  Unsure if that was a coincidence, or if there's a underlying issue that is impacting both where the targeting reticle is displayed, and also influences the ballistic calculations for misses.   Xenonauts destroyed this 3rd sentry gun with shotgun fire despite the targeting reticle issue.

 

This bug is not new in 7.x -- I remember encountering the same issue when attempting to target a sentry gun during the cleaner base assault mission in a milestone 6.26 - 6.29 campaign.

Thanks for the report! Tried to repro this on my end but unfortunately no luck just yet, will bring this up with the rest of the team and see what they think!

  • issue appeared for 3rd sentry gun encountered during the mission

Unfortunately still not reproducible on our end, we'll keep on the lookout for this but progress will be rather slow until we can manage to find a reproducible case. Very much appreciate the bug report though!

• Is it reproducible if you replay the mission from the start? ??? not tested, but i often don't see this issue on the first 1-2 sentries when playing this mission, so maybe that'd work.

Thanks, I'll try to spawn the cleaner base mission and see if I can get it to repro. No luck so far but I'll give it a few more tries
