Steps to reproduce:

  1. Select a unit with two weapons (say, a shotgun and a stun baton)
  2. Make sure the primary weapon (shotgun in this example) is selected
  3. Order the unit to move next to an enemy unit.
  4. While the unit is on the move, quickly change the weapon to the secondary weapon (stun baton in this example)
  5. Notice how the yellow stripe marker doesn't update to the secondary weapon as long as the unit moves.
  6. Before the unit reaches it's destination, after you've selected the secondary weapon, quickly move the cursor on top of the enemy you are moving next to.
  7. Notice how the secondary weapon gets selected as soon as the unit reaches it's destination. (yellow stripe marker appears next to it)
  8. Notice how your cursor still shows primary weapon reticle. (The cursor needs to be on top of the enemy at the moment the weapon gets changed)
  9. Attack the enemy unit
  10. Notice how the unit shoots with primary weapon even though the secondary weapon is visually selected.

This bug has caused me to shotgun numerous enemies when I meant to whack them with the baton. It's super annoying! Please, make the weapon selection activate as soon as I click the weapon and make it update the reticle if it's already on top of the enemy when it changes.

Thanks for the bug report. Appreciate the detailed repro steps! We'll look into this once the team is back from the Christmas/new year holidays!

Switching weapons while the unit is on the move is still not working. (Just shotgunned a psyon I ment to whack with a stun baton) :P

Yeah, I'll bring it up again and we'll discuss if we can implement this on a post release patch

It's just not technically feasible to permit units changing weapons when moving. It should now make an error sound etc so it's obvious it didn't work.

Ok, sounds good. Is the issue that the model/animation can't be switched while on the move? Would it be feasible to register the click and then change it as soon as the unit stops?

Vaguely related, maybe relevant while you're looking at the code relating to interrupting movement & likely a distinct issue from the issue very clearly described by Skitso in this thread, but:

In the last week or two playing v7.x on the experimental branch I once observed a soldier - while moving - end up with no weapon selected at all. The symptom was that after moving, the UI buttons for the different fire modes of their primary weapon vanished & the weapon model also vanished.  I was able to get it back again by opening their inventory (the weapon still appeared there) & fiddling with the primary & secondary weapons somehow.

I didn't raise a bug report for this as I wasn't sure what triggered it & didn't get a save or F11 dump while it was happening.   I suspect that one ingredient was right clicking to abort the move while the move was in progress -- the soldier may have been walking through smoke & taking stun damage at the same time.
