I am no longer able to shoot past crouched soldiers in adjacent tiles. They show up as a 20% block in the line of sight and more often than not shoot each other in the back!

it was a bug, and now it is fixed. You have to stand to get higher position to shot over the kneeling soldier.

Ahh, I never realised it was a bug to be able to shoot past a kneeling soldier if the soldier shooting was also kneeling!

Read crouch tooltip, it is clear description how it (should) work.

OR

Check the crouch mechanic in the Original UFO - Enemy Unknown.

Thanks for the report! As Gg-unknown has kindly pointed out, this is an intended fix for a bug, the penalty was supposed to be there, the bug was that there was no penalty, so we fixed that.

You go to all the bother of tracking down a bug and fixing it, and then the users register the fixed thing as a bug...who'd be a dev?

Or, to put it another way: many thanks!

I suppose I should read tooltips but I rarely do and also it seemed to me that it worked in X1 whether the soldier shooting was standing or crouched so I assumed it was the same in X2. But I could also be remembering it wrong; X1 was a long time ago now!
